The Explorer II makes me Proud

I had been a user of White's detectors...and I like them for simplicity reasons, but had I been using mine....I fear that I would not have found this dime...as there were TONS of rusty nails very close and all around.... Funny how alot of those nails change to semi-good target readings after about 100 years.... anyway last Monday I took off after work to a spot I found in which the local town nearby was replacing a section of sidewalk. I hunted for about 45 minutes until a heavy downpour of rain forced me to quit. I found a few items but the real keeper was this dime. Anyway, just wanted to post it for everyone to see. Thank you MINELAB! And thanks to everyone on this forum who gives me ideas like....the idea to check where sidewalk repair is happening! And thanks to everyone in the Explorer Forum who have helped me to better understand my Explorer.

1897-O Barber dime. That looks to be about an F-12 Fine. My 2006 Red Book gives it's value at about $275. Only 666,000 were minted. Usual lots were in the millions. If I found that thing I would have helped them pour the cement and given the workers some beers! Maybe one of you coin experts can help me. On the grading system they keep talking about the word,"Liberty" in its grading system. Where is the word Liberty on this coin??

That is a very nice Dime! Make sure when you find Silver Coins, not to wipe the dirt off with your fingers or rub it off on you pants. It will leave scratches in the Coin and will drop the value of the Coin by at least a Full Grade when you decide to sell them, if not more. Try to keep them from moving around too much and when you get home, just rinse the Coin with water and maybe a Soft Toothbrush (while the Coin is under the running water) with very little preasure to get rid of any dirt in the lettering. Congrats on a very Valuable Dime and Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you.

HI,, Your 1897 o dime is a great find do not take the 1st offer you can get at least 350.00. They are to rare and the demand is high for barber dimes. Harry

YES I picked up my machine before I left..... I am located in Colorado, on the Western Slope and I am going back tonight to check the big pile of dirt that they scraped from under the sidewalk which I never had a chance to check....thanks to heavy rain....Oh yeah also the grassy area between the sidewalk and street, and it looks like they removed ANOTHER piece of sidewalk....so darn, guess I will have to check that area tonight as well. (Twist my arm) It is across from the elementary school built in 1883. Hopefully I can find something decent. I am keeping my fingers crossed, and I will make darn sure that I do not rub any silver coin to see the date this time! That's got to be the biggest mistake I have ever made!

If you look close in the headband just below the wreath above the forehead, you can see LIBERTY.
Great coin electroman680
