NOTE: Sorry to those who read this in the Minelab section, I wouldn't normally double post, I had meant to post it here and realized this morning where I had posted it. I had posted my other 2 outings to this Church here.
Well, I received my EXcelerator SEF 12X15 coil late last week. I haven't had much time to play around with it, mostly some above ground testing/training, and some sand/beach areas. So far so good, I was a bit worried about pinpointing with such a large coil, but a few clad filled volley ball courts and lake beaches and I had the hang of it.
I will warn people, this coil is a bit heavy. I'm 37, and I don't have a problem swinging the 8" and 10.5" FBS coils all day long. Sure I switch arms from time to time, but for the most part, I go without rest. This coil will require you to build up some endurance.
Some may remember I've posted my finds from a Church circa 1900, this is the third installment. So far I am pretty impressed with the SEF, very nice discrimination, I was able to lock into the good sounds fairly easy today. However, none of my finds were deeper than 5", I was going over new ground today. I'll have to make a point to hit the spots from hunts 1 and 2. Perhaps there is some deeper silver around. I will say that at my house where the ground is nail infested, this coil has issues. (like all large coils I suppose) I was hoping there was some deep stuff under the layer of nails, if there is I'm not experienced enought to hear them. But for moderate, maybe even medium trash, I'm not having any trouble finding the good stuff.
So, the GOOD, I found a pocket spill with a Barber dime, Merc, and a wheat penny. Along with that I found another Merc, and a silver Rosie. I also found an 1873 Indian Head, my first IH, yay!
the BAD This was my first IH and it was reading like clad dime, I wasn't being careful and I gouged the edge and the face.
the UGLY Well, despite the gouge I was pretty excited about the IH, however it had a layer of black and a layer of green that was bugging me. My wife had a friend over and I was rushing around trying to clean my finds. I tried to speed things up and cleaned the IH with my electrolysis kit. First session wasn't too bad, but the 2nd dip in the pool did my poor IH in. Roasted it! I had to brush it down to basically copper. No definition, nothing. Serves me right.
Anyway, below are the pics. The two mercs are BLAZING. Looks like neither had been in circulation long before they were dropped. Very good definition on both sides, the photo's don't do them justice.
Missed another grandslam! I'll take the trifecta though!
Thanks for looking,
Jai

[attachment 101734 081408HuntPics2a.jpg]Sweet little pocket spill
[attachment 101735 081408HuntPics3a.jpg]Here's a close up of the barber and the first merc. It always amazes me at how brilliant silver can be coming out of the ground after perhaps 88 years.
[attachment 101736 081408HuntPics4a.jpg]The bands are so crisp on this one, I could probably shave with it!
[attachment 101737 081408HuntPics5a.jpg] Ok, for some reason I could not get a good shot of this one, I probably took 30+ shots with no luck!
