The Good, The Bad & the Ugly carnival re-visit

Well, ( The Bad and the Ugly) I was talking to the foreman of the construction site last week and said he didn't have a problem with me detecting.... He did advise me of the nice fence he was installing.... I asked him about the fence situation (before I knew I high it was going to be) and he said that "maybe you will find a way over the fence....." lol He was busting my detector stones because he obviously knew how high the fence was going to be. Well, by the end of Monday,(8-8-11) this fence will be complete and I will be out of my special hunting spot.

The Good, I found an old fire department button, a 1935 buffalo, a 1907 or 1901 V-nickel -very beaten and heavily corroded, a 1935 mercury dime, and 1940, 1952, and a 1952-D pennies.

Maybe I will buy a pogo stick and launch myself over the fence lol

YOU will find a way , great finds jim somtimes things look hopless but they have a way of coming back ,

Maybe you will get lucky and he will leave a opening where you can get in as some will do that as long as you stay out of the way of the construction equipment or go only in the evening when they are not working, worked for us on one site we were at.
Nice to see some nice finds and I hope he will leave a opening for you to get in.

Hi Rick,

I already told him that I respect the property and the equipment on site. I also explained to him that I would not enter the site as long as they were on the job. ( He really liked that I said this - almost like a sigh of relief that he didn't have to peel me off the ground like gumby) I also told him that I would be a pair of eyes watching the equipment on the weekend and that I would be a deterrence to those thinking of committing some time of vandalism. I explained to him that I would not climb the big dirt piles and have plenty of common sense in knowing what is safe and what isn't. He just nodded in agreeing and seeing that I am not some loose cannon with a metal detector. I hope that is the case as far as him leaving some type of opening. I looked at the fence they already installed and they tied right in with the other fence that is just as high ( lot next door to a another ballfield that was part of the original carnival grounds - it is private property and extremely well maintained) So I am being hopeful or else the pogo or the car...jk lol

We had such a spot and we explained the same thing and was told it would be fine and let anyone else we see to tell them not to detect in any area equipment was working at, or wait until done for the day. Got along fine with the Foreman and stayed out of their way. Had one problem with one guy that was not one of the locals as he went in a area they had finished with planting the grass seed and started digging, so it was closed down to only a few of us that has ask before.
I will say one of the guys I hunt with worked within a 1/2 mile of this site, so he would hit it early in the morning and on his way home. Got over 300 silver with the oldest a 1854 seated half, plus I think he said was 58 IH pennies, It too was a old fairgrounds that had been turned into a ballfeild and school yard in 1958 and now they were putting underground sprinkler system and tearing up the whole ground and re-leveling it. Great site and hope to find one like that again and with a Foreman as nice as the one that was there.

I forgot to look in my other goodie bag when I got home. The one on the right was some type of jewelry as it has a pin to hook to clothing? The other item I have no clue.

Option 1.

First secure a piece of rope in a vertical line parallel to one of those poles - throw a rope ladder over the top and secure one side of the rope ladder to the pole and the other to the rope and the link fence behind, ultra strong cable ties are good enough if you use a few of them (quicker as well). And you can be over in no time at all - leave the vertical piece of rope their for future use and just remove the cable ties and the rope each time..........

Option 2.

They must have a padlock entrance right?
Get a heavy duty padlock - and a small piece of chain, bribe the foreman to enable you to attach that piece of extra chain and padlock into their chain so there is a second padlock opening on their chain which you have the key for.

Options 3

Think I will not mention option 3 or even options 4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10 - a judge may well not be fully understanding......


Damn shame - you were doing well there and still lots more to come out..........

I like your ideas but fter taking with the foreman several times, I do not think the foreman would be for either. He told me off the record, that I am really not even suppose to be anywheres on the property during or off hours and he never gave me permission. (although he said he or his workers could care less if I detect the lot) He wants this setup so in case I get hurt on the property he can say I scaled the fence / trespassed on private property and he is off the legally off the hook. Which I really can't blame him. But he hinted with his statement if I can find a way in, "good luck / have fun, you are on your own. He wants to be totally on the record that he has no part in letting / allowing me in on the site. Ropes, chain / padlock or otherwise. However.... he did say if I can find away in, he is ok with it. hmmm

lol options 3 -10 yep, I certainly don't need any problems with local law enforcement. But your honor, you don't understand right before the calvary arrived, I found three silver dimes and a buffalo nickel don't you want local history to be preserved?" lol

Yep, it was by far the best place I have hunted this year. hmmm I'm thinking.... I need to take a ride later on this evening and assess the situation lol

Or, ( if you have a pickup ) throw ladder in the back of your truck , and pull up along side the fence , as close as you can get to it. Standing on the cab of your truck , set the ladder on the other side of the fence. Step off of your truck and over the fence , onto the ladder. YOU'RE IN ! Lay the ladder down while your detecting , so as not to gain any extra attention from passers by. You also might want to pick up an orange vest and a hardhat to wear while there. Maybe any onlookers might think you actually work there ! You could be searching for buried electrical lines for all they know ! Where theres a will, theres a way ! GL and HH !

My brother drove by after work and told me 'Jim, you have been shut down" lol I laughed at the way he told me but was sad that I can no longer detect the area He told me the fence has been finished and said there is no way in. Unless, I climb over or dig a big hole underneath (which I will not do) It was fun while it lasted and made some good discoveries. I am glad I was able to save what I did. Ernest goes to Jail! lol Thanks for the laugh lol In my case that is exactly what would happen too. As far as the foreman and groundskeeper being related, that surely would not surprise me. The city I live in, the people that get the bid on construction projects are usually related to some other person that actually works for the city. This new approach will allow you to gain access through the fence and you can get even with both the foreman and groundskeeper. Possibly even the city official who is really behind all your troubles.

Thanks Straker for Exo-man! lol Although it looks as if he was walking with a limp after the jeep ran into him lol Wow, with that suit I can rip through fences like butter, Clean up the city corruption, and metal detect anywheres I choose lol. That suit looks a little stiff for detecting lol looks like ecto-man had a load in his pants LOL
