The Holy Grail of Mercury dimes

Thanks Pulltabs! I gave her a light rinse to remove a little more of the dirt and reposted the images. I'll save the cleaning for a professional conservationist along with the authentication and slabbing.

Finding something like this in a vacuum wouldn't have been nearly as enjoyable. My girl enjoyed sharing in this as much as I did. Smiles all around! Thanks for the kind words James.

Thanks Erik. It could have been in any condition and I would have been happy. I'm just glad I didn't nick it with my Lesche! :surprised:

My daughter and I will definitely have a great story to tell for years to come. I don't know about living right but she did see how much that I study the signals and try hard to interpret them. And yes I will be chasing this find for a long, long time!

It definitely has scratches and some environmental damage issues but I hope that it will get some of that "market grading" consideration that the third party grading companies like to award some of these coins. Thanks for posting - I'll let people know when I get this professionally cleaned, authenticated and eventually slabbed.

but first I need to have it authenticated as well as professionally conserved. I'm pretty much finished with any further cleaning (by me) as I don't want to ruin a good thing!

I hope not hurting too badly Bayrat! There's got to be many more key dates out there waiting to discovered. You're next maybe?

HH,

You're right that's what they say. Time to snag that key coin before someone else uses that third spot up!

I'll leave it to the professionals as I wouldn't want to do anything detrimental to the coin. Sage advice. Thanks for the kind words. Keep plucking those 1916's out of the ground and who knows?
