The LAST Hunt ( for THIS year )

oldranger

New member
Greetings

Now that the weeds and brush have died off for the most part,
I want to concentrate my last few good weeks on a site thats
local.its near the old swimming pool which is now gone and
Is up in the woods about 100 yards from the rest of the park.
When i was young in the 50S 60s I know all of the local
churches had picnics there, as did the different steel mills.
It had 3 pavilions and a dance floor of wood. All of them are
long gone. The only thing remaining is an old concrete beer trough
where bottles were kep on ice.All thats there now is tall weeds and
those pesky twigs. ( and some small trees) iKnow ehere the blds were located.
Any suggestions on how to best run the GTI1500?? Also even tho
its off the normal track people walk on. I dont want to leave a lot of holes..
BUT the ground has a lot of gravel and stone in it.Im thinking of a small
garden spade (?) and a small hand pick might be handy..

YES? NO??

As always your info and advise are much appreciated

Happy Hunting

Ron

Sounds good, man.:thumbup:Yeah, bring a small handpick and a garden trowel. I like to use my e-tool(small folding Army shovel). You can pick one up at the military surplus for cheap and they sure work good. Have fun! Best of luck to ya! Let us know how it works out. Happy Hunting!:)

Ill for sure let you know how i do...and if
I can figure out how ill load some pics from my digital cam
Any suggestions on setings etc ???

Run in relic mode until you get a feel for what turns up.
Use an army entrenching tool to dig with and just cover your holes. Get one of the wooden handle old style tools and turn the head 90 degrees. Makes a great digger in the woods. Then, when you are finished, there is little time wasted in kicking the dirt back as you rise from a recovery. And even in the thickest wood, that should be your habit.

sounds like a great spot, hope keep us posted on your finds, sorry but I use an ace so setting on a 250 are new for me

Thanks again to all for the GREAT info... I iwsh i could get
club mmebers to go out on hunts NOT specifically club a

Ill keep you all posted.. The weatehr is supposded to be ok for a few days

Take care

Yeah I've got a couple of those folding foxhole shovels but don't use them for tecting unless I'm out in the boonies somewhere.

Ya know, back when I was in good health and hunting hot and heavy, I bought one of those lightweight Kmart 3 horse lawn mowers - one where the push handle would fold up - and take it along in the trunk when I thought I would hunt an overgrown area. I changed or sharpened the blade at least once or twice a season. A sharp blade will cut even small tree growth (one inch or less) and sure made for easier hunting.

BTW, I once asked to hunt and older site and was told no. I then offered to mow the relatively small yard with my little mower (it did need mowing)
if I could then hunt and was told OK!!!!!!!!!! PR does work at times! Yes, I did find a few older coins there.

There is an old swimming hole, now closed to the public that I would like to metal detect. Too, many people took advantage of the owner's generosity and now it's closed to everybody. It's a natural spring, with ice cold water and we used to take some watermelons and soda and when we got older some beer and put them into the water and it was sure good. People, really buttholes, started dumping garbage in this beautiful spot and now everybody is denied access. It only takes one or two idiots to mess up a good thing. That's why I never trespass and always ask permission to metal detect.
