The latest results from this past weekend's hunt. A bit long but a good read. Part:1 of 3.

Well, I finally got out and did some detecting for a change and boy!, did it feel good.

Saturday, Tim and I headed out in search for more Goodies for our Find Of The Month Totals coming up this Friday and hoping in adding some nice finds to our displays. I will start off with what Tim got that day and work around after this. Tim is a very experienced Explorer Hunter and he does extremely well with outstanding finds every month. Saturday turned out to be a slow day for him but at least we both had some fun and found some nice stuff. Tim found 5 Silver, being 2 Barber Dimes, 2 Merc's, and 1 Roosevelt Dime. He also found 2 Indian Heads, 1 V-Nickel, and 13 Wheat Pennies I think (I could be wrong on this but I thought it was something like that for his total). One other great find he got was a 1919 Canadian Large Cent at a School we stopped at early in the morning. There was part of the Parking Lot removed so we had to stop and we are glad we were able to save a few Coins from being lost forever. One other find was an Old Pocket Knife in the shape of an Old Boot which I thought was neater than heck! He also found a Copper Ring or 2. Towards the end, Tim told me that he was digging a lot of Rusty Nails that were sounding like possible Coins. We hunted for about a half hour more then decided to pack up and head back home. On the way home I asked Tim what he had his Iron Mask set at and he told me a -23 on his SE. This would be 11 1/2 on my Explorer XS. I told him to lower it to -20 since I run in -10 and wasn't having too much trouble with falsing from Rusty Nails. I have tried -11 before using Conduct Tones and let me tell you, there sure is a lot of Rusty Nails and Bottle Caps that start to sound good after -10. If you go slow enough, you will get a signal from a Good Target next to Iron using -10. You just have to get directly above the Target and start doing the Minelab Wiggle to get them to come in better. I did dig an occasional Iron Target, but we all do because some Iron just sounds so good. I hope this helps him out next time we go out so we will see. Tim is having yet another Spectacular Year so far with an Incredible 8 Barber Quarters (which ties last years total) to his Silver Count. WTG TIM!!!

Saturday, we hit a School that we came across and Tim noticed some Equipment down by there so we headed over to see what it was. We pulled up to the School and there was almost half of the Parking Lot removed. Tim says "I think we would be stupid if we didn't stop and give it a try" and I agreed. We got out and started hunting. I found a few Wheats, 3 of them being in 1 hole and 1 Buffalo Nickel. Tim got a few Wheats, the Canadian Large Cent, and a Barber Dime. Darn I said! I was hoping to find a Barber Dime since I haven't found one this month yet. Oh Well! We then decided to head out to another location after about 45 minutes. We covered a good portion of it but I can imagine what was deeper and what was going to be hauled away during the upcoming week. I was hoping someone that worked for the Construction Company would stop and ask what we were doing but no such luck. There was a Skid-Steer sitting there and I would have loved to get permission to use it to at least level out some of the dirt or scrape some back and then level it out after detecting. Anyways, we hit the road and got to the 2nd Site. This site was a bit hard also for Coin Finds but we did snag a few. Tim's finds consisted of a Silver Rosie, and a few Wheats that I can remember. I found a Barber Dime, 2 Merc's, 1 Rosie and a few Wheats as well. We then headed to another spot after a few hours of hunting with minimal results. This next site was even hard but I soon found out that by Patterning it, it started to produce some nice results. Tim found a V-Nickel and told me "at least I got my V-Nickel". Darn! I needed one of those too! Tim's finds were the V-Nickel, a Merc, a Barber Dime, 2 Indian Heads, and some Wheats. I found a Barber Quarter, 4 Barber Dimes, 2 Merc's, and 1 Rosie. I also found 2 Tokens, an Australian Penny, 2 V-Nickels, 4 Indian Heads, and a bunch of Wheats. All together, I counted 37 Wheat Pennies found on Saturday's hunt so I guess I had the luck that day on swinging the Coil over the Old Coins.

Sunday, I was going to head up to a spot that I have yet to try. Tim and Dan have pulled some nice Coins from it before Tim told me. I looked at the Radar and it showed that by the time I would arrive, that I would have to wait for about an hour or so for the rain to stop, so I decided to stop at a spot that was close to home that Dale and I had detected at and found some Wheats at before. I drove by and seen that there was some Sidewalks removed and another section in front of a building that was removed also. I got out and started detecting by the Sidewalk that was gone. I found 2 Merc's and a couple Wheats in about a half hours time. I tried where the Sidewalk was gone and nothing. I also noticed another Detectorist with a Minelab Explorer but just kept detecting. I also thought since I was finding Silver here, I would post-pone going to the other site I had in mind and see what else I could find here. After doing the Sidewalks, I decided to skip the other area that had concrete removed since it was a real Mud Hole and Water was standing in a large portion of it. I then started detecting the yard and came across some Pine Tree's on one side. I got a signal and dug it. Merc! Went another foot and got another signal. Wheat! Then the guy came over and talked to me and asked if I had found anything Old yet? I asked if he had and he only had Clad. I pulled out what I had already found and he couldn't believe that I had 3 Merc's and 6 Wheats already. He asked when I had found them and I told him today. He then asked where and I told him here and some come from along the Sidewalk that was removed. I then told him I just dug a Wheat and a Merc before he came over. I could tell he was a bit disgusted at my finds and it rang true a bit later. When I first seen this person, I knew who he was since my Sister use to date his Son years ago. He didn't know me, only my name since my Dad has told him about my luck on finds. Anyways, when I first seen him I thought some competition which was fine by me. Then he turned and there it was. A BIG NO NO! He was actually walking around with one of those Short Handled Shovels, the full size type and using that to dig. That really ticked me off but since I knew him somewhat I figured I wouldn't say anything about it and besides, he had to be in his 60's, so I better not for health reasons. He did alright with his plugs but it just didn't look good with him walking around with that Shovel. Anyways, we were chatting and all of a sudden he starts telling me that I shouldn't be detecting here. I said "WHAT"! He started giving me a bunch of Bull and I was thinking in my head as he kept adding more and more like, "Screw You"! I told him it was a Public Site and there wasn't anything wrong with me being there. He then started arguing a bit with me about what I just told him. I almost told him "yeah!, and that's why your detecting here also, because it's not allowed". He then said he was going to be leaving in about a half hour and that I should do the same. Yeah Right!!! He was just mad because I was getting the Oldies and he wasn't. What a Schmuck!!! I then started detecting and just swung the Coil half a sweep and got another Deep Signal. Silver Rosie! I thought about calling him back over where I was if he wanted some Silver but then I thought about what he had said and figured "to hell with him!". In this small area and by the time I decided to go which was early, 4 o'clock in the afternoon, I had found 7 Merc's, 1 Rosie, and 16 Wheat Pennies. This area was only about 15' x 30' and was loaded. I thought about staying until I hit 12 Silver since this would have given me 20 for the weekend but decided I had my 10 for the weekend and then some and I was happy with that. Now to go back hopefully next weekend and see what else is hidden at that site.

So here's the totals for Sat. and Sun. I found 16 Silver, which were 1 Barber Quarter dated 1905 (finally!, my first Barber Quarter for the year), 4 Barber Dimes dated 1899-o,1907-d,1911-d,1914, 9 Mercury Dimes dated 1920,1923,1924-d,1934,1941-d,1942,1942-d,1943-d,1945, and 2 Roosevelt Dimes dated 1956-d and 1957. The 20 and 24-d Merc's are High Grade and I will post a Pic of Front and Back to show them off. I found 3 Nickels which were 2 V-Nickels dated 1909,1912, and 1 Buffalo Nickel dated 1916. I had to use the Nic-A-Date treatment on the Buffalo since the Date was gone. The other finds and totals will be posted in Part:2 and Part:3. Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH to you all during the week.[attachment 95146 DirtySilver.jpg][attachment 95143 CleanedSilver.jpg][attachment 95149 20amp24-dMercFront.jpg][attachment 95150 20amp24-dMercBack.jpg][attachment 95166 DirtyNickels.jpg][attachment 95183 CleanedNickels.jpg]

James, congrats on all the finds. Thats quite a haul. Also sorry to hear about your run in. I've met alot of great people since I got into metal detecting but I guess there are always one or two out there that don't play by the same rules. HH

time to hunt...but about 3 hours per week is all I get. Usually once a week...sometimes twice each week if I'm lucky. Looks like you guys did quite well. Good luck on your next hunt and keep filling the pouch with silver.

Nice finds, James!

I'm guessing--reading between the lines--that if the Dad was suck a d***, that your sister didn't date his son for very long. :)

I am a nice guy but time is usually a factor so I don't really like it when others come by and try to talk for very long. I am cordial but never tell them what I am finding, sometimes I want to tell them to see their face but I usually refrain. I have seen people swinging the coil 3 inches off the ground in the center and up to 5 inches at the sides, plus making a "Z" pattern missing ground everywhere. Maybe that is why he didn't have anything - me and my buddy call it the double falling leaf pattern. Anyway I loved the read and congrats on the finds.

James - would you show your cards after you bluffed somebody in poker? It for sure has it's place.

Here are the Indians, Wheats, and the Misc. finds from this past weekend. I found 4 Indian Heads dated 1887,1904,1906, and 1907. Wheat Penny totals were 51. I thought for sure I should have had 53 but there could be 2 that escaped my Pouch sitting in back of my Van so I will have to look tomorrow. I will post the 51 anyways. They are dated (2)12,13,16-s,17,17-s,(3)18,(2)19,(2)19-s,20,20-s,26,27,28-d,(2)34,(2)36,36-d,37,(2)37-d,38-d,40,(2)41-d,(3)44-d,(5)45-d,(2)46-d,(3)47-d,(2)49-d,52-d,(4)53-d, and 58-d. The Misc. included 1 complete Key and half of another Key, 3 Buttons, 2 Copper Rings, 1 Marble, and 1 Uncle Sam Play Dime dated 1950. Enjoy! Here is the last of the finds from this past weekend. I found an Australian Penny dated 1941 for a Foreign Coin. I also found 2 Tokens. A Good For 5c In Trade/Athens Pool Room Miles City, Mont. Token and a really different type of Token that reads Perfect Circle, Three Star Dealer Program, Check, 1.Oil Mileage 2. Speedometer Mileage 3.Power Time To Install X-90's on the Front and on the back it reads Perfect Circle, Piston Rings Piston Expanders The Key That Opens The Engine on the Back. Cool Find with this Token/Medallion. That finally does it for this post but I hope you enjoyed the Pics and thanks again for everyone who take a look at the finds. Good Luck and HH to you all on your next hunts.[attachment 95211 DirtyForeignCoinampTokens.jpg][attachment 95212 CleanedForeignCoinandTokens.jpg][attachment 95213 TokensFront.jpg][attachment 95214 TokensBack.jpg]

But you never know what you will uncover on the next outing so I will keep my hopes high on finding another Silver Dollar. They are really fun to find! Thanks again and Good Luck and HH to you.:detecting:

Someone who I knew and finally meet and to find out that he's a jerk about other detectorists was a good chuckle I thought. It's too bad that he uses that Shovel though since it really looks bad for us that have common sense and use Lesche Type Diggers. One good thing though! He sounded like giving up since Silver was getting too hard and too expensive to go out and find. Maybe then he won't be an eye sore or a pain in the butt. Thanks for the reply Kelly-Stl and Good Luck and HH to you on your next hunt.

Now that you mention about the type of Swing he may have been using, that was the EXACT same type that you described. And to make things worse, he was using the Joey Coil and not the Stock Coil. I wasn't going to lecture him on proper Swing and Speed since he has been detecting for a very long time (maybe 30 years) and he may have gotten offended. Thought to myself, more for me to find! Thanks for that great response and description of EXACTLY the way he was detecting. Good Luck and HH.

Maybe then we could hook up and I could introduce you to Tim. Get the 3 of us together at a sight and see what kind of results we would have. Let me know when your in the area and Good Luck and HH to you until then.

Whats so good about the 1930 Australian Penny? Let me guess! There wasn't one of that year made. :poke: My chances are really slim but you never know. Thanks again and Good Luck and HH to you.:detecting:

Great finds as usual, James. That guy needs to think about people's perceptions, & that even if you are good digging plugs with a shovel, it's still seen as a large shovel by other people passing by which leads to them thinking you are digging large holes even if you are not. As envious as I am of some of the great finds that keep getting posted on here, I hope I would never become like that guy & try to run anyone else off of a site just because they have had more success than me. The way this year has went so far, I would probably have had to chase quite a few people away!

Take care & HH,
Dan.

I am glad you liked the reading part as well. I can't help myself when it comes to posting. Nothing like telling how the finds were found and how much fun it was. It's almost like walking in another persons shoes when they give you a story along with the Pics of the finds and gives the urge of getting out there and making some nice finds for yourself. Thanks for the reply and Good Luck and HH to you on your next hunt.
