Obviously I'm much to young to have witnessed it but, back in the 30's and 40's, anyone could go to their local drugstore and purchase marijuana or cocaine over the counter from their druggist. Cocaine was issued for toothache and marijuana was sold for medical reasons as well. I'll be the first to say that I don't have any idea whether either of these controlled substances actually did any good for anyone. According to God's Word, anything used and or taken to excess isn't good and that includes water and peanut butter! Obviously peanut butter wasn't available during biblical times but you get the point. More and more articles are coming out about the dangers of too much exercise and especially the sport of jogging. So it wouldn't surprise me to find out that marijuana and cocaine do, in fact, have legitimate medical uses. It's likely that it's a case of the federal government over reacting, as they have often done in past history. The McCarty fiasco should indeed prove that fact. The FBI nearly damaged our country beyond repair with their power hungry actions of the time. Too much federal government isn't a good thing. Oh ... you might wish to remember that come November 2012, if you're considering voting for Obama! Him and his fellow Democrats have nearly bankrupted this country, to the point, that we may never recover! I'll repeat ... too much federal government is NOT a good thing! The IRS is another example. If you want to read something really interesting, read the original charter of the IRS. Do you realize we're named as 'Volunteers' and can 'Choose' whether we wish to participate in the federal taxes annually? When was the last time you chose not to and what was the results? Good luck with that one! It wasn't that long ago that we paid our taxes to the states and the states paid the federal government. And as long as we're on the issue of too much federal government, what's the legitimate purpose for many federal government departments having their own police force? We've got the CIA, the FBI, the Federal Marshall, state police departments, etc.. Why do we need police for the IRS, the Bureau of Alcohol and Firearms, etc.??? Talk about federal government overkill! Make no mistake, our federal government has done many wonderful things, for us as citizens, but they've also over-stepped the boundaries of common sense and failed to keep federal spending to a minimum. Okay ... I've said my piece. I'll step down off my soapbox and give all of you a chance at expressing your right of free speech. Have a good day and may God continue to bless America!
