hello i am brand new to this site and the detecting world. hoping for some help. i bought used from a friend a MXT PRO . and love it . been using it for about 7 months, and have found some really cool items. nothing below 8 inches. thati s mostly the problem.i want to know how i can get the most out of my MXT PRO that i can for coins and relics. i have a whites DD coil on it. thank you for any help
 
Most anyone would be happy with 8 inches. :surprised: A concentric coil the same size or larger than the smallest dimension of your DD will get more depth most of the time. In other words, if you have an Eclipse 6" x10" DD, then an Eclipse 950 will get more depth. If you have the D2 ten inch coil then the Super 12 will get more depth.
 
Not everywhere you look is going to have good items below 8 inches. All but one coin I have found have all been less than 8 inches. Do not get discouraged because if it is there your detector will let you know. Here is a little bit of a tip for you. Dig those screw cap signals that say 4 inches and deeper. They are not always a screw cap!! Good luck, Tim
 
[size=large]there is so much more for you to learn. depth will be compromised by too much trash for your size coil or type of coil. in highly minerlized ground the DD coils have it over the concentric. in trashy parks you need a small concentric coil or a medium to small DD coil. i for one have done real well with my 10" d-2 coil from whites in parks and school grounds. did just as well with my 8x6 SEF on my minelab machine in the same places. had trouble with the 950 coil in those places. in wide open not too trashy places your concentric will give you depth but once again you need to be mindful of the minerals. the mxt will tell you how bad your soil is. read the manual carefully then go and get The MXT Edge by Jeff Foster. if you own a MXT you should own this book. don't be shy about cranking the sensitivity up. and listen for the faint signals. it will pay to get a very good pair of headphones. going by another of your post on the MXT forum you're already doing real well. i'd love to find any one of your finds.

When I use me mxt I turn the sensitivity up to +2 and it gets those targets at 8 inches with no problem the downfall is a little mor chatter but you get used to it after a few outings
 
As a matter of fact, it is my #1 main-use unit in my detector battery. I use my VX3 for 'cruising' many open areas, and another detector or two on occasion, but my MXT Pro, with the 5.3 Eclipse coil mounted, is my #1 detector. The 5.3 Eclipse coil (a 6
