The Omega and 11" DD coil

IT IS RAINING HERE TODAY!

Although I had a good many hours in with my regular F 75 and then the LTD using the 11" DD coil, I had but a handful with it and the Omega and I am here to state, "that is one deadly combination." I had been using the 10" coil on the Omega quite a bit, thinking that having already scoured some of my better producing spots with the 11" DD and occasional stints with the 5 and 6 1/2" coils and my other detectors, that the 10" might sniff out a few more goodies. Quite frankly, I did find the 10" hard to take off. It gets decent depth, is light and a joy to swing, and it did find me numerous good finds. I decided, however, to go to the 11" DD earlier this month after I recovered the "surprise" silver dime with the 10" coil out of a more modern era park. That park was actually built, along with the school, in 1984. I felt the 11" would give me a little better coverage and depth and be better in the stretches that did have concentrations of tabs and can slaw. I never pulled any more silver from the site, but from among the trash and from other less trashy places, did recover over $30.00 in clad.

Hoping for maybe one more silver before years end, I went back to my old faithful Military housing site and spent almost 11 hours hunting on it between Mon. and Tues., using the 11" coil. I didn't recover any more silver, but from a site that good targets had become fewer and fewer, I did pull 7 wheats and 5 pre 82 Memorials, several clads and 1 1983 UN PESO, 3 Navy buttons, 2 keys, a copper cross and a 2000 rabies dog license. On the Omega, the 11" DD hits good targets with laser proficiency. Almost all recovered targets were within just a few inches of trash items, or in clods with trash pieces. 1 wheat cent was under a 1" x about 1/4" dia. rusty bolt and two 3-4" lengths of drain plug chain. The wheat itself was about 6" deep and the other targets were in various spots within the first 4" of the dirt clod. About a 4" deep clad quarter was located within 2" of a 6" long piece of narrow sheet metal. There was just enough distance between the two items to get the flash of a quarter reading from one direction.. When trying to pinpoint, it would pinpoint the sheet metal.

In closing, guess I'll leave the 11" DD on the Omega for a while

that sounds great!! i love reading stories like this. tell me is there any reason to have the small 5in DD coil??? sounds like the 11 in DD cuts through trash very well and gets super depth. i just ordered the G2 with 11in DD and supposed to be here tomorrow...will the 11in DD coil from the G2 work on the OMEGA 8000???

I like the 11" DD in more open areas, but it can work on the Omega or G2 just fine. On the Omega I keep the stock 9

thanks monte! that maybe the next one i buy(omega 8000).. i have the coupon for the 5in DD and lower rod...i can buy omega 8000 with the 10in and have a great set of tectors..my G2 arrives tomorrow so i will be doing some fun testing and if temps get high enough i will be out digging... hope my MXT PRO dont get mad at me.lol

If you have an Omega and G2 and the three coils mentioned, you can be set for a year full of great hunting!

I don't think the MXT Pro will be too mad, but it will have some concerns. Oh, don't get me wrong. I feel the MXT Pro is possibly the best White's detector offered today! That said, I also think the G2 and the Omega both have a lot to offer. In any case, don't give up on any detector until you have learned it well and can make a full judgement call. The Omega is really more in a multi-purpose class like the MXT Pro since it offers more Target ID info and some Audio Tone ID selection, but the G2 is just very versatile in what it can do.

glad to hear monte! i love the mxt pro..used the mxt with alot of success. i do like trying diff machines. as far as teknetics..i like how light they are..super fast response time..separation of targets from what ive seen online is great. so we will see. happy new year!!

As Monte mentioned, the 5" coil does have a purpose and I use it quite a bit. Particularly, when I'm not so concerned with depth. This is not to imply that it doesn't have decent depth, but when I know I need a coil that will hit deeper targets in trash, then I go to the 11" coil. The 5" will really get right up on a good target nestled beside and under a trash item, so it definitely has a place in ones arsenal of coils. I, however, have hunted some very high trash laden spots with the 11" coil and it does an excellent job. HH jim tn

Hunted today myself with my new Omega and the 11 inch coil
cold and rainy with snow on the ground here in Indiana
I was able to pick up a few dollars in change during an hour for lunch and an 45 minutes after work

I had some real good hits but the ground was to frozen in some spots ( those will have to wait until spring )

The omega is definitely heavier with the 11 inch coil than the delta is with the 8 inch coil
But the extra weight will be worth its weight in gold some day I'm sure.

Next buy is going to be a good pinpointer ( 11 inch coil is still tricky )

It is hard to beat the 11" bi-axial DD coil on the Omega and G2. That coil just plain hunts.

How does the 10" elliptical concentric do with those pesky crown caps that wreak havoc on the Omega using the 11" DD ??

Brian, with the 10," they don't seem to lock on quite as good. They are a bit more bouncy. If the crown caps have a bit of depth, they will get me with both coils quite often. Although I often suspect what they are, they often seem to id with a different number then a dime or quarter, I dig some as I would rather be safe then sorry. The shallower ones I can also size and pretty much know from the vid. Fortunately, I dig many more dimes and quarters then bottle caps. HH jim tn
