The Omega And The Dirty Dozen :teknetics:

I went to the older part of town to look for some old silver coins. I decided to take the Omega with the 11 inch DD coil. The GB was set at 60, sensitivity was set at 75, the discrimination was set at 40 and I using 3 tones. This particular area has a lot of EMI and my ears are still ringing from all the chatter. I had to turn the headphones off when I was digging to get some relief. The chatter wasn't too bad when I kept the coil in contract with the ground. I hit one long stretch and got a couple of wheat pennies. I hunted a couple more hours and didn't find anything but junk. Finally I started popping wheat pennies left and right in an area about half the size of a tennis court. Most of them were around 3 to 4 inches deep. A couple of them were around 5 to 6 inches deep. The deep green ones. I just knew if I kept going over that area I was going to find some silver. I got a real weak audio signal and the VDI numbers were jumping around from 81 to 83. I dug down around 7 inches and out pops a 1944 Mercury Dime. :)

The dates on the 11 wheat pennies: 1927, 1929, 1940, 1948, 1946, 1945, 1944, 1947, 1946, 1948, 1944

BTW the T2SE runs a lot quieter than the Omega does at this particular location. Some locations I can run the Omega wide open, but not at this one.

Looks like your dime was dropped 10 minutes after she was minted. Sweet!

A little soapy water and a soft toothbrush will get the tarnish and dirt off. And a jeweler's cloth will make them look like new if they're not too worn.
