The Omega Got A Workout Today

With the ground being so dry and hard to dig, I decided to do some shallow coin shooting at a fairly new school and wait for some rain before going back to my honey hole that has been producing some old deep silver coins. The Omega has been staying in the car at that site because of high EMI from nearby power lines. My Vaquero and Gold Bug don't seem to be bothered much with EMI. Luckily today there was no EMI problem at the new location and the Omega ran without any chatter with it's 10 concentric inch coil. After about 20 minutes I decide that I could cover the area faster with the 11 inch DD coil. It started chattering a little with the 11 inch coil, but I was able to get it to stop chattering by running the sensitivity back to around 60. I was pinpointing off the nose of the coil instead of using the pinpoint button. It's a lot faster doing it that way on shallow coins. The Omega is a coin hound. It gave me a good workout today.

I found 161 coins: 43 quarters, 76 dimes, 29 nickels, 13 pennies and a 92.5 silver heart ring.

Wow! Tahts an impressive hunt you had there. Nice ring! Lots of coins too!

Bart, I could have had a lot more coins for the same amount of digging, but I also was trying for a gold ring. I try to dig everything that has a ID number between 49 - 59. In my opinion that range is where most gold rings or gold jewelry that are lost will be found. Especially at elementary and middle schools. I probably dug around an additional 40 targets yesterday that turned out to be mostly can slaw or broken pull tabs. There were an abundance of targets to dig. I don't think this particular school has ever been metal detected before. It has now.:)

One year I bought a new Detector with the money found..

I'll say this, the Omega is really easy to swing all day. Its balance and weight is just about perfect. I'm a tad sore today from digging all those targets though. I went out to another location yesterday and found a key chain tag that's fairly old. Early 1900's, I think. I almost didn't dig, because I thought it was just one more of those hundreds of thousands of shell casings that are so plentiful at that site. Someone told me they use to train troops there during War World II. I can't find anything on the net about it though. I was at Shelby Farms, Memphis if someone wants to do some research and see if they can uncover something.

From looking at your picture,, the top is a M-14 blank and the smaller one is a M-16 blank...
M-14 is the same as a 308 and the M-16 is the same as a .223....
They were used in training and Funerals.

Of all the Teknetics models, the Omega is still my favorite. Oh, I like using my T2, G2 and Delta as well, but if I were limited to only one of them, the Omega would be it.

I still favor the stock 5
