28 degrees when I started swinging along a meandering woods path with the Omega this morning. My first target from the side of the path about 10 minutes into the hunt was one of the dropped mini's. "Nice way to start," I thought. A little further along the path I decided to go off trail and work a patch of fairly open ground near a large down oak tree. Got a nice 57, 58 reading and from about 3" recovered the 44d war nickel. Not to long after that got a soft high tone with mostly a 80 reading that wasn't to deep. Flipped a couple inches of dirt over and saw the glint of gold. I didn't have a good feeling about it being gold, but it did look good and I put it in my small water bottle. I was right, it is marked 10k g f. Finished working the patch on the one side of the fallen tree and began working the ground on the other side of the down tree. Working my way out a little and along the tree I dug another dropped mint and about 5' away I got a great sounding hit with a 91-92 reading. Kicked away 2 or 3 inches of leaves and got a solid 92 vdi and showing 4" deep. Flipped the clod of dirt over and looking back at me was a big chunk of silver. 9.5 grams, to be exact. The sterling ring appears to have a flower detail on each side, so it appears to be a hefty ladies ring. The ring, of course, being hefty. Not to long after that I got a mid and high tone hit and when I kicked some leaves away noted a pouch partially buried. Under the flap on one side of the pouch was a clad quarter. On the other side the zipper was rusted shut so I cut the pouch open with my pocket knife hoping to see some green backs not all wasted. No paper money, but the three un-used condom's were still intact. Not to long after that I ran into an 8 clad dime and 3 nickel coin spill. A couple of the dimes I had to pry apart. About 3 or 4' away from the coin spill I recovered the 53 Rosie. Got a couple more bullets, dimes, a 1919 wheat cent and the metal tip to an arrow. All in all, just enough good digs to keep me warm. I had on the 10" concentric coil and running 99 sen, disc 1, 3h tones and a g b of 59-63. HH jim tn
