After the blind installers (Elton, I'm telling you its never ending) finished their job this morning and since I hadn't done any swinging since last Th., I decided to venture out and give it a shot. Here at the house, we had gotten a good bit of rain, which turned to sleet and ice, followed by 2" of snow, which, had pretty much melted in all but the shaded area's by mid morning. Unfortunately, just north of here where I went to hunt, they apparently had received 4" or so of snow and there were still just a few area's that I could see any grass peaking through the snow. Since I was there, I decided to give a few of those spots a shot. The snow, on average, was still about 2" deep and then there was about 3-4" of grass for the LTD to also punch through. Right off, with the 5" coil on, I got a quarter reading, removed a area of snow, dug a small clod and knelt down to flip the clod over and promptly soaked my knee pad and pants leg in the mushy snow.
Shouldn't have been, but I wasn't thinking. Anyway, I ended up digging 2 wheats 3 Memorial cents and 15 clad coins. The deepest coin, a dime, was about 6," but through the snow and grass, it was still a solid hit in the bp mode. Last fall one time I had tried this spot with my regular F 75 and had intermittent periods of interference from some nearby power lines and I had to drop sen. down to about 55 at times, if I remember correctly, to quiet it down. Today, running with a sen. setting of 87, I experienced no interference what so ever for the hour or so I was there. HH jim tn
