The reason why some people are having a hard time understanding the waterproof issue

is partly due to the way Minelab has promoted the CTX. Here is the picture taken off their web site and it clearly shows the whole unit which includes the regular headphone unit with the 1/4 headphone jack(eccept the control panel) under water.
In real life situations this cant be done. This post is not intended to be negative in any way with regards to implying that they used false advertising...its just one of the reasons people may have a hard time understanding the whole water proof issue.
To me it would have made more sense to actually show how the detector would really look under water.
Looks like a great detector

Actually it can be done.
There is a plug that goes into the 1/4" headphone jack to prevent water penetration so it can be used wireless......as long as the screen and pad are above water so as to not loose wireless conectivity.

According to the water hunting video that was posted earlier the module with the 1/4 headphone (non waterproof) jack has to be removed before the unit can be submerged in the water. There is a plug that covers the water proof head phone connector which is part of the main body of the unit. The wireless connection doesnt depend on the head phone module, it receives its signal from the display unit on the handle.
