The Reward of the Meek

E. D. Hulse said, "Humility is a strange thing. The minute you think you've got it, you've lost it."

A small town wanted to recognize and reward its meekest citizen. A survey was taken of their small community, which eventually identified the person. In a ceremony attended by all the important people, the meekest citizen was presented with a ribbon on which were inscribed the words, "The Meekest Man in Town." However, the next day they had to take the ribbon away from him, because he was wearing it!

How do you understand the promises and rewards mentioned in the following texts?

Psalm 22:26 (New International Version) "The poor will eat and be satisfied; they who seek the LORD will praise him

So where is that balance between being humility and meekness and having self worth and being a strong man and leader. Taking "pride" in the work one does. I think it has to do with motives and attitudes, and ones connection with the Lord. I know we should give all of our work to the Lord and ask him to bless it.
Christ was a leader second to none (literaly). He was also a very powerful man, think of when he cleared the temple in Jhn 2:15, So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. NIV

I think that many people view humility and meekness as being week and ineffective. This could not be further from the truth. A man or woman of God can (and should) be strong and full of life.

We can be humble and yet be strong in our faith by telling those in KINDNESS that taking the Lord's name in vain and committing sin is wrong! God's Holy Spirit will guide us and lead us at the right time to speak to others when it is time for them to listen.....otherwise, what we say in condemnation is just words blown away by the stormy winds! I was told one time...long many years ago....that you can catch more flies with sugar than you can with vinegar! Our tongues can speak the truth, sweetly, or they can be acidic with sourness! Dear Lord, Please help me to be loving, sweet and kind to others....even those that I dislike their ways of talking or doing things! Amen! Ma Betty
