The S.E.F. Excelerator coils

The 6" coil seperating like a 4" coil......Where in Sam Hell did you get a 4" coil for the Explorer?..........I want one too!..........

how the 11" coil does for you at worked out parks. I want to know how it does on sniffing out walked over deep silver. That's exactly where I'm going to test out the little sef 10 x 12 for the first run. Let me know how your minelab does at places like that. That's the kind of site I do about 80% of my hunting at and it would be interesting to see how both coils do.

Well, Bryce...

I followed your lead and ordered one too (10"X 12 1/2"). I must admit I was torn between that and the 11" Minelab pro, but I've been so impressed with the 12 1/2" round Excelerator coil, that made the difference. The slightly lower price of the S.E.F. helped too. (Funds being what they are, I can't order both, but probably would have if I found as much silver as you! :)

Because of the holiday weekend, I probably won't get it until next Monday, darn it! But by then I have a detecting trip up around St. Cloud planned, which is new hunting territory for me. We'll see how the coil performs then. I'm also going to hit some worked out parks here in Rochester too, and see what pops up.

We've had an active club here since 1980 and have produced some really exceptional TH'ers, so finding spots within a 60 mile radius is tough. Back in the day, after some of these guys (myself included) hit a site with the big VLF coils, there wasn't much else left to find. I'm hoping the SE can pick up some decent leftovers.

the end of the week. I hope it holds up to everything I've heard and read over the last few months. I've heard it's a little heavier than the new minelab 11" coil...but also heard it is VERY DEEP:thumbup: I can't wait to take it over spots I've already pounded with the 1050 and 10 x 14 coils.

NO more all metal....NO more ferrous sounds...NO more manual sensitivity...NO more low gain. I now had committed to Conductive sounds...some iron mask...semi auto sensitivity...and HIGH gain.

Looks a little like the "Quick Start" settings...

I've been meaning to try that 10x14 coil on our goofy Oregon soil - I think I'll get one now, and give it a swing.

Bryce,

Those are some interesting settings. I have an old fairgrounds about 50 miles from me that has a patch of crappy soil with gravel mixed in it. Last time it was hunted, a standing lib qtr and a barber qtr came out of there, but because of all the trash and constant noise from the machine, it was pretty much an accident that I heard the high pitch amongst all the trash. It seems to me that adjusting to semi auto (I assume you're at sens 32 setting...) and a low amount of iron mask would 'smooth' out things so that the coin sounds are easier to pick up...is that about right? Also, in conductive sounds, how do you get around the nails? For me, nails usually show up in the upper left, while rusty bottle caps seem to settle in the lower right. I think blacking out a small section there would eliminate the sounds but I'm also afraid of creating too much nulling and missing close good targets. Of course, if the SE 'averages' the sound, or still allows the high pitch to come through, maybe that won't be a problem. Way in the past, with the old analog machines (VLF/TR) you could still get a good 'clip' on a coin if it was next to trash that was discriminated out.

As I said before, I've got both the SEF 10X12 and a 6" Excelerator coil coming and it seems to me that a combination of the two should do a pretty good job in that trash patch, and maybe get some dimes overlooked by others. You've stated more than once how good the depth is on that little 6 inch and it may be the ticket for working the area a small section at a time.
