The warranty on the Goldquest Aquasearch says

that it is only rated to 1M. Are you saying 39"? Why so shallow? So if I am using it in the surf, say chest high and I kneel down to fan for a target and place it on the bottom I would void the warranty?

Bill, 1 Meter = 39.370079 Inches. What do you mean by "excess depth"? How much is excess?
Thanks,
Otto...

Hi All,
The sealed potentiometers on the Aquasearch are rated to IP67. This is an international protection standard where the two numbers related to the dust protection and water protection respectively. The 6 means that it is totally dust protected, and the 7 means that the control can be immersed in water 1m deep (39.4in) for 30 minutes with no problem. However, if it is left at that depth longer, or taken deeper, it does not mean that the control will fail. That is the specification for the control and that is the standard it was tested to. If a seal is going to leak, it usually leaks at low pressure. Greater depths and higher pressures generally squeeze seals up tighter.
The Aquasearch is designed for immersion when used as a wading detector where it will normally be submerged much less than 1m. Short excursions to 2m are certainly not going to do any harm as the pressure is only 20% higher than at the surface.
Eric.

surf conditions vary tremendously. Big waves make using a scoop tough or almost impossible. Don't get me wrong. I have heard great reviews of the Goldquest and I would like to own the waterproof version. However I was just surprised when I read the warranty. I just want to be sure it will fit my needs. Thanks Mr. Bill.

Let's stay with 1M. and forget I mentioned anything else. That way it won't come back to bite me later on. <IMG SRC="/forums/images/frown.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":(">
The unit was not meant for diving. It was designed for wading.
If it doesn't fit anyone

Thanks Bill. I, too, was curious how "waterproof" the unit is. I know that a lot of the hunter's in Florida use the dip and fan method and would imagine the unit could get 5 or 6 feet deep. That Goldquest SS/Aquasearch sure sounds like a nice unit.
Do you know if anyone has ventured into fresh water with either? If so, what did they experience?
Thanks,
Otto...

90%of the water hunting i do is in the ocean surf in va. beach..............waist deep to neck deep. i feel certain that being underwater the water for 40mins. to one hour + - will not hurt the goldquest ss aquasearch.
that will put it let say: two feet under water for some time.
now there are times when i hunt the mouth of the chesapeake bay, this is where i actually live. i walk over sand dune, bingo.....water..........i hunt certain areas here and the bay is generally calmer and smaller waves..........work neck deep water here alot............so underwater time for goldquest will increase here.
so, if i were goldquest around my waist like i plan on doing, a normal hunt during the summer time will last 3 to 4 hours.
mr bill or eric, please address this issue i have
thanks

Hi Max. <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)">
I would strongly recommend that you chest/neck mount the detector. It

Bill, is there a time limit for the unit submerged at 1 meter or less? In other words, if I were hunting in the water and the unit was just below the surface, 1 meter or less, would I be able to hunt indefinitely without damaging the unit?
Thanks,
Otto...
