It was the usual afternoon hunt down by the rivers edge. With temps around the Boise area heating up, the beaches were getting crowded with families looking to escape the wrath of the sun. The sands where full of the usual modern day clad, pull tabs, vintage beer cans at astonishing depths, sinkers and bottle caps. After taking a breather in the shade next to my lovely wife I noticed a sand bar just up stream. With fresh sunscreen applied and detector in hand I walked up stream to try my luck on a very good looking sand bar. The kind of sand bar that you can just imagine 50-100 hot bikini babes laid out on towels soaking up the sun. The kind of sand bar that seems to gobble up expensive jewlery from right under the noses of the unsuspecting. After about 15 min of hunting the X-70 rang out with a sweet low tone and a TID of 12. I thought.. great another piece of foil.... But as I swept the 6" 18.75khz coil from side to side being sure to hit the target from all directions, to my amazement the tone/TID did not waiver. I dug down 3".... still in the hole.... 5".... still in the hole....and at about 8" I spotted the unmistakable shimmer of that sweet untarnished GOLD! Resisting the urge to scream to my wife (who gets on my case for never finding anything of value) I stuffed the ring in my pocket and casually strolled over to my wife with a big stupid grin on my face. I showed her a women's 14k gold wedding band to which she exclaimed "Cool! About 30 more of those and you can afford that GP4500 you've been wanting" She was pretty stoked to see that gold ring though. This is the second time I have ever hit a beach type area and the only other time I went I found a cheap silver plated ring but hey..... this beach hunting stuff is pretty sweet so far!
