THE YEAR IS 1911

**********************************
The year is 1911 --- One hundred years ago. What a difference a century makes! Here are some statistics for the Year 1911:
**********************************
The average life expectancy for men was 47 years.
Fuel for this car was sold in drug stores only.
Only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub.
Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.
There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles of paved roads.
The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.
The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower!
The average US wage in 1910 was 22 cents per hour.
The average US worker made between $200 and $400 per year.
A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year.
More than 95 percent of all births took place at home.
Ninety percent of all Doctors had NO COLLEGE EDUCATION! Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press and the government as "substandard".
Sugar cost four cents a pound.
Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen.
Coffee was fifteen cents a pound.
Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used Borax or egg yolks for shampoo.
Canada passed a law that prohibited poor people from entering into their country for any reason.
The Five leading causes of death were:
1. Pneumonia and influenza
2. Tuberculosis
3. Diarrhea
4. Heart disease
5. Stroke
The American flag had 45 stars.
The population of Las Vegas , Nevada , was only 30.
Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and iced tea hadn't been invented yet.
There was neither a Mother's Day nor a Father's Day.
Two out of every 10 adults couldn't read or write and only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school.
Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at the local corner drugstores.
Back then pharmacists said, "Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health!" (Shocking?)
Eighteen percent of households had at least one full-time servant or domestic help.
Try to imagine what it may be like in another 100 years.
IT BOGGLES THE MIND!

Yes, now it is 2011 and man has come a long way in their progress with many blessings of God during the last 100 years, but many have become fat and lazy and think life as we know it will never end no matter how they live, but what an awakening the world will have sooner or later when the Spiritual love of Jesus leaves the earth and goes up with God's faithful Saints! Amen! Ma Betty

Yeah ... we've come a long way, Ma, but we've also regressed just as far in many ways. For instance: want to stop the drug problem in America? Once again ... legalise Marijuana, heroin, and morphine to be available over the counter at the local corner drugstore. At first there'd be many buying the products but the 'Newness of It All' would die out soon enough and there wouldn't be any value or interest to it anymore after a while. Therefore the drug lords would loose because the products are legal to buy over the counter. I don't have any idea whether the pharmacists were right, as shown in the statement below, but it wouldn't surprise me if they were. Our FDA is a joke and should be done away with altogether. We've got so many federal agencies that we don't really need anymore or agencies that no longer serve a legitimate purpose.

Back when my two oldest were babies in the mid to late 50's, you could buy Paragoric from a pharmacist without a prescription but then a prescription was needed to buy it! Paragoric was used to rub on baby's gums while teething or given to them orally a very small amount for their stomach amd gas pains! I think too many people used it to keep their babies and young children sleeping all the time, so it was prescribed for their protection! All things are good and serve their purpose when used for what they were intended for and not used in access for wickedness and even for murdering people! Satan takes anything God intends for good and makes it bad.....including habitual drug use by addiction! Someday, the world will be made perfect again when Jesus rules and reigns forever in new Jerusalem City! Amen! Ma Betty

These are some really interesting statistics from the year 1911.

A couple of things stuck out to me......

The average hourly wage was 0.22 cents an hour in 1910 (but I don

Welcome my lady to our CMD Forum and, yes, it was very difficult back in 1911 and afterwards for my mom and dad being born in 1912 and 1913....the crash of 1929 and the depression of the 30's made it very hard on them to live and they had to work very hard to keep food and shelter for themselves when they married in 1932 and them when their family started!

I remember dad back in the 1950's when my ex and I were first married when he said although the salaries were low (compared to today for sure..if you have a job that is) it was still easier to buy a refrigerator and furniture compared to the 30's and 40's! It took WWII to get America out of the depression and back to work but an awful war and many, many died in and by it! May we be thankful for what we do have and if we have a home and food to eat let us give Praise to God and Thank Jesus, for the many blessings we have been given by their love within us and from other Christians who encourage and uplift us with prayers and Bible Scriptures! Things could be much worse and looks like we are heading that way again in the whole world but we still have Jesus and He is our ARK and will help us to enure and overcome anything no matter how difficult it may be or become! Merry Christmas to you and May God Bless you and yours! Amen! Ma Betty
