When the weather gets a slight bit warmer than it is now in upstate New York. I was thinking my ACE250 out on beach of Oneida Lake. Does anyone have info on the coils, as far as being water proof? If I were to get into shallow water would that be a bad thing for the coils? Which would be the better coil to use? Thanks

It won't hurt thr coil(s) to get them wet, just be REAL careful to not get any water in or on the control housing or you could end up with a $200 piece of scrap! If you want to seriously water hunt, look into a waterproof rig, cuz one slip with the 250 and it's toast.

...trip over the first big, slimy rock and your pretty little detector can go back to the factory for an overhaul. You can bag it and try to seal it up, but it might be easier to get a dedicated water unit.

Look for an older, used Whites H20-proof unit, you can get them at fair prices and they are good for fresh water.

I have a water unit, but prefer to use the ace(in shallow water)due to it's visual id,pinpoint ability and depth indication. Just go slow and stay on your feet. post scriptum- use a scoop with a 3 or 4 foot handle and put a magnet in the scoop to catch iron. The ace 250 is a killer on rings.

Thanks for replys. Think I'll try shallow water at first. Mostly sandy bottom. If that produces some gems, then I could go for water proof gear. I could wrap a big condom over box and give it a bit of a go. Thanks again...

I dare you to ask the guy in the drug store for the largest condoms he carries because you need to put them on an extra-long rod.

Is a haphazard idea, at best. Do it at your peril.
