Why do we never win a war against...

Our government has had many wars against ..... then the war was forgotten before it was ever won. What wars am I talking about? How about the war against drugs? Do you think we have won that war? How about the war against illiteracy? Do you think we have won that war? I know a girl who is 16 and can't spell simple words. How about the war on crime? Did we win that one? How about the war against crack cocaine? Did we win that one? How about the war against HIV and AIDS? Have we won that one? I know schools try to impress people with signs that state "This is a Drug Free School Zone" or "This is a Weapons Free Free School Zone".

So what is the latest war? How about the war on obesity in our children? Yes, folks, at least in some schools in Michigan they are making it illegal to have .... cup cakes .... in the schools.

I am picturing in my mind new signs being posted saying "This is a Cup Cake Free School Zone". I am sure there will jail time or even prison for offenders or as a minimum fines and community service at a donut shop.

Here is a link to an article about this new war: http://detnews.com/article/20101115/SCHOOLS/11150353/1409/rss36

What will be next? I wonder when they will remove the pop machines and candy machines from schools...since I am sure the students drink more sugary pops and candy than they do cup cakes.

It is there to make people FEEL GOOD. Because as we all know how you feel is more important than working hard, having self disiplinen or the truth.

Here in Tucson some of the schools have outlawed pop machines on campus for several years now. A good thing, Steve in so az

I agree witj banning snack and soda machines in schools but to make it "ILLEGAL" is absolutely pathetic. That is a case of the Government gone ballistic and it is wrong. I agree that Obesity is no joke. I do not agree with putting Mom in jail over a cupcake or "snack". There is no way I can even begin to support that.Maybe the Government can conduct Full Body Searches on 10 year olds. we all know what kind of terror threat they are. It's amazing how many bombs they can carry in those back packs.!!!! Someone ever touched my kid like that I gaurantee you I'd be in jail. No questions. I truly hope your kidding on this.I understasnd all the Rules and Regs. I understand that they "need" to search for any weapons. I went through it myself and agree with it. But to ARREST Mom for a cup cake or snack ??? COME ON HERE. Who are they fooling??? To say "It's for the kids own good" is a lie and covering up the fact that they just want to cram their own agendas down peoples throats using the kids as pawns. !!!!! Where does this mentality come from ??? I'm not even going to bother going on. I'm done. This is just absurd.!!!!!!!! Bye. :ranting:

My children celebrated their birthdays in a special way by sharing with the others in their room! I don't think a cupcake a day or a week will hurt anyone, but snack and soda machines shouldn't be available where they can get fattening, sugary items to eat providing they have the money to spend in school! Parents probably give them school lunch monies or an allowance so they can do this! I never did for my kids, as they took their lunches or just had enough money for the lunchroom for that week! I went to eat with Tami when parents could be with them to eat on parents day, and these children gobble or swallow the food they do eat down so fast to get out and play that most of the food goes in the trash can! I know as I've been there!!!

I'm not so sure diet soda is good for the bodies, because they have lots of salt or other sugar sweetners that are artificial and not a good thing, especially, if a person is subject to chemical depression...which I am...had to go off all diet soda, anything with nutra sweet and etc, for it caused deeper depression for me and I have heard for others, too! After losing my excess weight I wanted to lose, I tried to keep it off by eating these no calorie products but had to quit and then I started gaining back my weight plus more!

The best way to keep weight off, period, is by exercising and hard work! Not many farmers have weight problems, for they work too hard from dawn to sunset and do eat large cooked meals! The limited amount of food and working it off is what needs to be done! Now days the kids have most everything they want to eat and lots of it! Even poor families have food stamps and welfare to provide food for the table, but they don't want to spend time cooking, so potato chips, cakes and other junk along with soda pop is their
main diet....and a poor one at that! Also, remember that most of the foods we buy today canned or packaged contain chemical preservatives which cause weight gain and mental instability...good healthy nourishment helps the body to stay physically, mentally and emotionally stable!

The schools even have food sales with sweets mostly sold for funds for the PTA, field trips and etc.! I think making cupcakes and/or other sweets unlawful as special birthday treats is going a bit far! Many of our schools around here are removing snack and soda machines or thinking about doing it but cuts down on the monies collected for school activities (which is for the kids, of course)! Dad never let us kids eat very many sweets (we didn't have dental care when growing up) which helped me to still have my teeth I guess! I had lots of dental care though after we had insurance through our employment to help pay for dental care and that helped also to save my natural teeth!

Children can't even get outside and play in safety like we used to do on the farm and in the cities and, therefore, stay home and play video and other electronic games...giving their eyes, hands and fingers exercise and helping their brains to think quickly on the games they are playing but not reading in books for learning more about history and life in general! Oh well, Ma will get off her soap box and pray more for our young ones and those in charge of them and us! Amen! Ma Betty

I can just see it-A kid led into jail in handcuffs;for eatin a CUPCAKE:rant:...........................
