They do exist! :surprised:

Hi Guys,

I've heard tales of the mythical Morgan dollar being found around these parts. But not having actually seen one ... I remained a bit skeptical. However after countless hours of scratching in the dirt ... I can attest to the fact that they really do exist. This one was at a solid 12 inches deep but sounded like a wheat penny at half that depth when I went over it with the detector. I knew something was odd after digging a 6" plug and no wheatie ... The probe said it was still in the bottom of the hole. I dug down another 3 - 4 inches and still nothing. My first thought was that I had found another wretched can lid so I shelved my expectations and shoved my digger a few inches deeper and popped out a big clog of dirt. To my surprise, I saw a big silver disk staring at me from the bottom of the hole. (Made my day!)

Lesson learned ... Never give up on the impossible.

Here's a pic. including the rest of the day's finds.

Great find DD! I've yet to find one in 22 years! Any mintmark on the reverse?? An 1881-CC is worth quite a bit. Congrats on a great hunt and continued success!
