Thin ornate possibly silver

Mcdetect

Active member
This rang up in the nickel range. It is thin and ornate and looks old. Found in 1800s park. Came out of the ground shiny and looks like it could be silver. Was in very wet ground so it is tarnished. It is way too thin to be a spoon handle and the smaller end does not appear to be broken off of something. Looks like it may have been wrapped around some other material. What is it?

I can't tell how big it is, but it may be from a mirror or a hairbrush

It's about the size of the end of a spoon handle. It's just over 2 and 1/4 inches in length. The weird part is that the smaller end metal is folded back on itself and appears to be intentionally crimped so it sort of appears that there may not have been anything past the smaller end??

There are a number of different styles, but this will give you an idea of what I'm referring to.
The hollow handles were usually filled with a type of plaster.
