Think I'm going with this...

A custom 1917 Enfield Mauser converted to a 270. Going to pick it up in a day or two. Need a good deer rifle.

Anyone have a quality variable scope with at least a 44 to 50mm front lens for sale?

are you the only one gonna be shooting this rifle, or will some of your daughters maybe be shooting it also, just curious. :) As for the variable scope, you might want to check out the Mueller line of scopes, some good choices there, and won't cost a leg like some of the better known brands. Again, just a few thoughts. :) vic

They had been using factory "light' loads with the 30 06. The 270 has a relatively mild recoil for a high powered rifle and should be equivalent to the light loads they are use too... plus you never notice recoil when hunting anyway. Below is a couple photos of Leanna (16) getting her familiarization with a pump shotgun the other day. I had her put my vest on because she had bear arms. They all like to shoot and Lee is the best shot of the girls.. and pushing me. She shot a perfect score at an indoor shooting match with a 22 rifle when she was 8 or 9. If one of the girls had to shoot an apple of my head, I'd hand the gun to Lee.

Will check out the scope ~Thanks

to see you bringing your daughters outdoors and hunting and fishing with them. My mom brought me hunting and fishing all the time when I was a kid. Well hunting all the time she taught my sister and I how to fish then let us go. My dad wasn't around much so she did her part to help me learn about Earth and all its wonders. She couldn't afford a babysitter so I was out in the stand at 5 years old trying not to move or talk much. Those times out in the stand or fishing in the lake shaped me and I can pass it on to students in Earth Science class. I learned more about biology while gutting a deer and asking qurestions then I ever learned in college.
At a time in my mom's life she was told by my dad that women don't hunt. I am glad she never believed that and when she left him she started hunting again.
Thanks Vernon
