Nice medal, u2robert... at the link below, slightly different from yours, but fair guess it's on the right track: Boy Scouts of America, Explorers/Explorer Scouts advancement medal, 1949-1958
From the look of the pitted corrosion and intended for the Boy Scouts, would guess silver plated.
