Thinking about a new detector!

Hope you get your new detector Rick and I am dreaming to be able to go :detecting: and use the old White's Spectrum XLT I've been used to until the last few years....I would probably have to learn how to use it all over again, as I forget so easily when not doing something often enough to remember! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

Hey Rick,
There's many new detectors, on the market today, that do a great job at a reasonable price. Others may not agree with me but I think the Fisher F2 is a great little detector, for the money. The Fisher F5 is also a very good detector with reasonable cost. The Teknetics Delta 4000 is a great machine and the Bounty Hunter / Discovery 3300 is a great detector and very under rated. I really like the Tesoro Cibola. It is outfitted with a digital meter but, for the dollar invested, it is without a doubt one of the finest low cost metal detectors on the market today and it carries a life-time warranty! So there you go my friend! You don't have to spend a lot of money to get a great detector that will find a lot of treasure. Oh...there's one other I should have place on my list of potential winners; the Mine- lab X-Terra 305. You probably noticed I didn't list the Garrett Ace 250 and I have good reasons for doing so. It's nose heavy and over rated compared those listed above and it doesn't do any better at finding buried treasure. I've owned the Ace 250 and wouldn't buy another one. Actually, for the money spent, I'd take the Fisher F2 or the Tesoro Cibola over the Ace 250 any day of the week. That's my opinion my friend.

The idea is to enjoy the sport without spending a fortune on equipment. Yes...it's nice to find treasure buried 10-14" deep but who wants to spend all day digging holes big enough to think about owning a back-hoe and I'm not so sure I'd spend a $1000 again either. I think I'd spend less money, buy a great little detector like the Tesoro Cibola, and look for virgin territory to hunt in enstead. What's your thoughts???

Is this dream likely to come true?

In my statement above, I mentioned the Tesoro Cibola had a digital meter but it does 'not' have a meter. It's simply a great little detector at a reasonable cost and life time warranty. What more can expect for $425 or less? Of course, if you prefer a digital meter, there's a host of other fine machines out there that will do the job at a reasonable cost, such as the BH Discovery 3300. There's an up side to the D3300 by the way. The cost of extra coils/covers are very reasonable (much less than any other brand out there) and it will consistantly hunt to 10" or more on quarter size targets. Here's a couple websites to check out: http://www.detecting.com/ and http://www.tesoro.com/ I'm sure the sponsors here, on the forum, would be happy to give you a good price on either machine.

P.S. Give the extra money you would have spent on an expensive detector to your wife. I'm sure she would find a place for it!

Santa's funds ran out before he could bring me a new minelab :( It's okay though, too many things I need worse. Plus, I don't have to worry about trashing my hubby's ego by finding more goodies than him. HAHA! Kidding of course. What kind of detector are you hoping for?

Lol, Martin. May have to take up hunting in a big way to pay for school! I changed my major today...working on a four year degree instead of two. If you're gonna dream, dream big!

Brother Rick, Do yourself a favor and purchase the Minelab X-Terra 705 enstead of the MXT300. For years, I wanted an MXT until I owned an X-Terra 70 and, having owned an M6 as well. I had no desire to go any further down the road with White's. Please don't misunderstand me brother, the White's are good machines but they will never be a Minelab. And, frankly speaking, there's nothing out there that will do what an X-Terra 705 will do for the price. So if you're bent on spending $650 plus dollars, buy the X-Terra and you'll never look back! Oh...did I mention how user friendly and light the X-Terra'a are to use? Yes...I spent more money (a $1000 more) and bought a new Minelab Safari and love it but I haven't found any more with it than I did with my X-Terra 70 and that's the truth. If someone wanted to give me a $1000 for the Safari, I'd spend $650 and buy the X-Terra 705 and bank the extra for a rainy day!

The mxt pro is not a mxt 300. Thw mxt pro has tones comes in flat black has a touch pad and has backlight. It is a new detector. But like you said I have a x-terra 70 and really like it.
