Thinking About Buying an F5. Opinions Wanted

I love my F5. Love the way I can set it up to suit the any ground conditions. I have had a BH Tracker iv, AT PRO, and a BH 3300 and the F5 is by far the best of them . I have the 11 inch coil and just need to slow the swing right down in rubbishy conditions to be able to get the good targets. Only minor faults I can find is that it is prone to tipping over if you arent careful ( I just added some wider feet) and you can knock the Threshold out when pinpointing. I will gladly put up with this for the benefit of using this great machine. Should you get one? For sure.

How do you tell when an F5 was manufactured?
In some of the older posts I have read that you loose the tones feature when using the DD coils on the F5. Is this still an issue or has that been resolved with software updates?

I've got the first generation type F5, the coil doesn't screw on, the connection is a push on the and I use the 11" DD coil 100% of the time. It has 4 tone selection and all tones work. I'm not sure on how to tell the production date but if my has 4 tones then I would assume all F5 would.

Can anyone tell me why I shouldn't buy an F5?
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What did you end up getting if anything ? I have an F5 myself and love it. Initially I thought the analog interface would make it complicated to use after I started with a BH discovery 2200. There is a learning curve but with all the documention online (Mike Hillis mainly), one can be up and running within a few hours and it only gets better from there. After a few months with it there is nothing I don't like about it. I have a Fisher F44 which I only use as backup or when the weather gets nasty. It's a love-hate relationship with that one. If only the fisher F5 had the volume control, back light and weather proof control box of the F44, it would be perfect.
