Thinking Seriously about Moving to the Deus

Hello,

I've noticed there are quite a few CTX 3030 users that have crossed over to the Deus...I was curious as to why? For the last 2 plus years I've been using the CTX and have been happy with its performance but I'd like to try something different. I have a few reasons for wanting to make the change: CTX warranty running out, the Deus five year warranty sounds awesome (is that a full warranty?), not so much the weight (heavy) of the CTX but more the weight (light) of the Deus (heard from a friend), and wanting to learn a different machine/try something new.

I was also wondering what the transition (easy, moderate, difficult) is like from the CTX to the Deus? The Deus pinpointing accuracy? Is the Deus comfortable to swing? Where's the best place to mount the control unit/display (I've seen on the machine and the wrist)? Any other opinions about CTX versus Deus?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Jerry

In the right hands any really good detector can become a great detector. It took me about two months of Sat hunts to grasp it and understand it and how to use the programs to help me...It is a really easy machine to understand and program but very powerful and a new update is come just for the US hunters..from what I was told...So give it a try it is so light and not being connected with a cord on the coil and headphones is very cool and make it even more fun

They compliment each other nicely with a similar but different learning curves. I believe the menu structure on the Deus is easier to access and offers more options across the spectrum but learning the results of changing those features seems to be more important on the Deus. The coil selection of the Deus is woeful and expensive when compared to the CTX which in it's own right has one of the worst coil selections out there. There is a lot of versatility with the Deus you don't have with the CTX as far as physical options but the overall capabilities as far as depth and discrimination makes the CTX the machine I prefer in modern trashy situations . If you have the small coil the CTX doesn't lack by much in iron separation if you're patient enough to work slowly.

One of the biggest differences between the CTX and the Deus is the weight, the CTX may be perfectly balanced or ergonomic in design but what ever way you look at it its still a heavy detector, that was the main reason i went for a Deus for a main use detector due to back problems. Also with the Deus you can take it straight out the box and use it with the stock progs for most types of sites or you can site down with a rocket science degree and make it as complicated as you want.

The 5 year warranty is a nice peace of mind as well and also it can be totally upgraded with the latest software as and when its released and this is also free as well.

I do like the length of the Deus warranty. The CTX software is upgradeable as well but they've yet to release an upgrade...a couple of years ago, Minelab released a couple of fixes to work out some software bugs but that's about it..

I am also looking at the dues but waiting for the newer model which rumored will be multi frequency but will have to wait and see.. the ctx does every thing the dues does but the ctx seams to do better in difficult dirt and beach/surf ( like mentioned above a pro can take an ace 250 and dig circles around some one that doesn't under stand the hi end detector) but it is a lot lighter and seams like it is easier to use which would be great for the wife. the dues right now is a single frequency at a time machine which makes it faster then the minelab fbs2 frequency , which makes sense the duce only needs to send, receive and translate one signal the minelab sends, receives and translates 28 at a time.. if the dues can come up with the multi frequency technology and make it work like minelab and keep it's speed then minelab will have some serious competition. dfly

I'm not so sure I would say the CTX is better on difficult dirt. Granted the TID is better than Deus. I've never used Deus on beach, but from everything I've read, saltwater may be its weakest link. CTX seems to do well there.

Don't THINK about it. DO IT!!!You will not be sorry. Best money
I've ever spent on a detector. It'll find the goods in the IRON. I've
seen some of the heavy hitters out there who swore they'd never
trade what they have but are now impressed with
The Awesome Deus!!! So if you want to find Treasure, join
the ranks of owning a Deus. You just can't go wrong.
Great warranty, great service and a great machine.
What else do ya' need?

Buy the Deus , its brilliant on most sites like most machines .

As for a new model , I have been told there is definitely NO new model coming but ONLY a new coil later this year and that will be multi frequency . That's being released later this year , that's all I have for information . This new coil may be part of a software upgrade to V4 but that's my guess.

I guess we will have to wait to see what this new coil really is and does. from what I have read the machine is already multi frequency ( which puts it above most single frequency detectors ) but one at a time that you select, ( which i have to admit is a lot easier than the minelab x-terras that can do the same thing but you have to change the coils instead of just pushing a button) so my thought when they say it will be a multi frequency coil is it will pulse multiple frequency's at a time, which should make it more stable in the salt, be able to go deep and pick up the silver with the low frequency's and the high frequency's for jewelry and gold chain with the mid frequancy's for everything in between, and hopefully just not more frequency's along with the 4, 8, 12, 18hz the detector already has and covers most everything you would need..dfly

The Terra is not a machine you can compare the Deus too , the Deus is over twice as expensive and light years apart in technology .
I would like to see a few more frequencies on the new coil as using on salt needs them . The Deus will most likely have a new program for the new coil that you have to go into when using the new coil and when going back to the other coils you just simply change program again . That's what I think it will be.

you need good ears as the TID is not much good at depth .my Delta is more accuarate on the TID

I owned both the CTX and Deus at the same time. I had bought the CTX first and had all three coils. I really liked the tones and useful info on the screen. The weight finally got to my old shoulder even with a Swingy Thing.

Learning how to setup and adjust the Deus was easy after understanding the CTX and reading Andy's book. I still preferred the ML tones and screen info, but after a month of use got accustomed to the Deus tones.

I became satisfied enough with the ability of Deus to find items that I sold the CTX. I do miss the small 6" CTX coil it could get in places that the 11" on the Deus just can't. If swinging the CTX wasn't so painful for me I would probably still have both; between them I don't think much at reasonable depth will be missed by a patient hunter.

If you live close to me I wish you would pass on both and get a Bounty Hunter!
