...You go detecting when the ground is still frozen-Ya get a good reading -somkething ya just KNOW is a real keeper-And ya cant dig it up out of the frozen ground??:rage:Thats happened to me-Lying awake at night thinkin about whats out there,and ya cant get to it-FRUSTRATING-HOWEVER:It IS a consolation knowing that if you cant get to it,neither can anybody else....
 
That has been happening to me all this week....time to take a pick axe with me on the next hunt..I think I had to pass by a couple of gold rings just because they were sleeping in frozen ground...yes....very frustrating
 
hard as concrete. Sometimes I get a signal that sounds great and can only dig an inch or so. I then put water in the hole and continue detecting. After a while it sinks, I go back and dig the mud. Sometimes another round of water - depending on how deep the target is. steve in so az
 
I was huntin' some woods where I was picking up colonial stuff (button's, etc) and even found 2 LC's. Well, I was crawling through brush and bramble, found a clearing and started hunting. Got me a REAL good deep signal that I knew was a coin. I reached for my digger and it wasn't there!!! I searched for the next 45 minutes trying to find my digger but couldn't find it. The next week, I went back with a friend. Don't you know? I stumbled upon my digger! Well, I knew that signal was there someplace (but everything looks the same in the woods). We were just getting ready to leave when all of a sudden, I hit the same signal! Dug down and found an LC. Man, what luck :)

Now, I always carry two diggers and a large Lesche relic digger. On top of that, I now have a small GPS unit so I can mark where I find targets. I transfer the waypoints to Google Earth Plus to see if there's any pattern to my finds. Technology is a cool thing :)

So, if you found a good target and you couldn't dig it up, make sure you can find it again when the thaw comes...
 
Great idea ,Steve; Why didn't I think of that????? I have to try it next time...thanks for the idea.
 
It will still be there after the thaw! :)
