Although I was water fishing the early part of the week, yesterday and today I fished with the F 75 LTD and did manage to make a couple of silver coin finds, a neat Military pin, a what could be Drill Instructor whistle and a couple of other curios....along with a couple bucks in clad and cents. The 2 silvers, 45 Merc and 59d Washington, put me at 97 silver coins for the year. Except for the stains, the Merc is in really nice shape. My highlight find for the week, though, is the Military pin. On the front it reads, "Rock Of The Marne-July 14-18-1918-For Our Country-Not Ourselves" It apparently commemorates a WW 1 battle near Chateau-Thireey France on the Marne river. At the time the newly formed 3rd Division, (now The 3rd Infantry Division) took the brunt and held back what was to be the last German offensive of WW 1. That battle pretty much ended the war. All the finds came from the sides of a now blocked off road bed. Although some grass is growing, digging was a mix of dirt and gravel. Nothing was all that deep. My hunting patch even got a shot of rain. Un-fortunately, not enough and as much as just a few miles away. Everyone have a great weekend. HH jim tn
To think, men were fighting and dying in awful conditions back them, and you found something that was a part of that,,. Thank you for the history lesson of that period. Say, did ya hear about the guy who caught the World Record inland Stripe on a homemade Alabama rig and was disqualified for it? I'll hopefully be catching some great inland salmon here this weekend... you can watch the fun on the Muskegon web cam of the channel. You have plenty of time to break 100 silvers for the year...I'm pulling for you on that...but really wishing you'd find a gold coin soon!
