Those of you who've had the Explorer XS and II and now have the SE

How do you like the SE?

Do you see better target separations?

Any better depth?

Any other thing you like better than the former Explorer models?

I'm getting an SE and was curious what your thoughts are.

Plus your favorite settings for the SE?

The SE is faster to get off the null and back to hunting. Really nice not to have to slow or stop because the EX II is nulled out.
Just my 2 C. worth

I used an explorer 2 for 12 months and put 300 hours practice in, here are my notes on the SE , i have got about 80 hours in so far on the SE here is my honest opinion. Well i would like to start with the pinpoint on the SE , it really is a lot better than it was on the SE , the pinpointing is now close to the great pinpointing xlt and dfx users have enjoyed over the past few years , 8 out of ten for the pinpointing on the SE. Now the coil on the SE is something i personally think is very tetchy, in wet grass you can get false signals , i also get falsing on dry stubble. This is something i never got on the exp 2. Depth is the same on the SE as it was on my old exp 2. Its a bit quicker in iron the SE but not no where near fast enough for small hammered coins in high iron (UK hunters). Its just a slightly tweaked explorer 2 basically. If you own a nice explorer 2 then my advice is don't sell it just to buy an SE, you may be disappointed having to shell out hundreds for just the better pin pointing! . The only 2 things i think are noticeably better with the SE are like i say the much better pinpointing and a little faster recovery speed in trash/iron. The Battery life i can't see any difference between the explorer 2 model. Marks out of ten for explorer 2 = 8 points, marks out of ten for SE = 8.5 points.

I had trouble with the weight but the SE seems easier on me than the others.
I have no trouble with nulling because I hunt in all metal. I also find the SE more sensitive and once you get used to that its not bad.
My settings are.
Sens to the max. But still stable.
Variability 9.
Gain 6 or 7 any higher and I lose the sense of depth by the audio tone.
All metal. Or iron mask wide open. which ever you want to call it.
Ferrous.
Deep on. Never use fast. Screws up the tones.
I dig all good tones no matter where they come in on the right side of the screen.
These are my settings and may not tickle anyone else's fancy.

NH Bob, you wrote: I dig all good tones no matter where they come in on the right side of the screen.

I am curious if you dig far bottom right hand corner? Around here that is where beaver tail (of the pulltabs) come in at. What have you found other than that digging that specific hit?

Otherwise, thanks for the good write-up.

I'm going from an Explorer XS to the SE so I will like the conduct/ferrous numbers. I never had a problem pinpointing with the XS.

Thanks!

Tony

Where I come from the bottom right corner is Crown caps (Beer bottle tops) for us older guys. So you see, you never know unless you dig it.
Honestly, I go by the tone. If its too high and squeeky I forget it.
