Thought this one was worth posting

Tuesday evening my hunting partner Jim and I were detecting in the woods near a local patk. We've often discovered larger silver coins once we're away from the high traffic areas where everyone else has hunted. Just before dark I got a "27" signal at six inches that turned out to be this rather flat 1892 Barber dime.

By itself, I didn't figure it was worth the trouble to post. But the next night we went back to the same area. About 20 feet from the dime I got another reading that bounced between "27" and "28" at about 6 inches. I dug carefully and pulled up this ugly 1883 V nickel

I knew there was no way I'd get a "28 reading from a nickel, so I scanned the hole again and the machine locked on at a solid "31". I called Jim over and brushed away the dirt in the bottom of the hole to expose this beauty!

Can anyone guess where that nickel was resting all those years in the ground? Here's another shot after I got rid of the rust spot.

To add a little icing to the cake, the last coin I picked up that evening was this 43-S war nickel. Even though it's only 35% silver it still looks a lot better than that V!
Good luck to all and great hunting!

Just stood there, for a second and gazed at it.Awsome, told my son josh,"isn't it funny how years ago things were made so much better than today", he even has admired it and showed it to his friends a few times.Nice to see the respect for the better things from a modern day kid. Thanks for all the tips here really, scott.

terrific finds..........I believe I'd keep going there...
