Three day relic hunt with my new F 75 LTD

HI, all:

The beans are out and I got to spend the last three days (16 hours worth) hunting a worked over camp/skirmish site before deer season starts on Saturday. My first serious relic hunt with my new F 75 LTD. The beans were cut off about four inches above the ground, so I had to run my coil a little higher off the ground. The BP mode really helped. It enhanced the signals. It will take some getting used to. All the signals sounded loud an big. I was running all metal with a sensitivity of 75. We've had a lot of rain, so the ground is pretty wet, which made it seem "hot". The Ferrous meter was running between .3 and 1 and when I ground balanced, the TDI was reading between 75 and 79. Hotter than normal for this part of the country. Normally, I get readings in the mid 50's when I ground balance. I had to ground balance often. It seemed the extra power with this new unit causes some TDI number distortion. The numberss seemed to bounce around more than my old F 75. Still, I was able to find quite a number of good targets, with depths down to ten inches. Remeber, I was running the coil four inches above the ground. Almost all the signals were solid and loud. With the "hot" ground, it ran a little jittery, but I was able to cope.

Most of the finds were shot bullets, with a few drops mixed in. The five large lead balls in the center are cannister from a James cannon. Below the cannister is a flat piece of lead that was part of the James cannister sabot. The tin "can" held the balls in place, and a thin layer of lead was applied over the tin for a sabot. The back side of this piece is thin tin. To the right of the sabot is a frag from a James shell, and below the sabot is a Borman fuse. I didn't realise what it was until I hit it with warm water and a toothbrucsh.

My first impression of the new LTD is positive. The increase in power is impressive, but it has to be tailored to your site, just like any other machine. I'm looking forward to many other relic hunts with this new unit. If you liked the old F 75, you will love this version.

Thanks for looking and keep on diggin'

Lookin' good bud!!! I just need to find a place to get more targets. I know that it is good cause I have found shotgun shell butts at 12" with mine. I may have to break down and hit a park with mine just to get use to the target sounds, trash or not:beers:

Good job, jimmy........ looks like you're managing well in getting the hang of the new machine!

Can you imagine that "James" shot raining down over your head from an aerial cannister explosion.

Oh, man...

You have done well. You also have a good knowledge of what you have found. Thanks for sharing.

I'm about as dumb as a rock on CW stuff. I found a bayonet once. That was a pretty easy ID. I was also able to ID a 72 cal. dropped Austrian bullet that the north used. There were about 2000 troops encamped at a small community 12 miles from where I live to protect an important railroad town. The people are tight and won't let MD'er's in. I got permission to MD a field about a mile from town. I had a few people stop and make sure I had permission to MD there. Didn't find a thing from CW times. I also had an old timer in another town tell me I could MD his farm on the Va.- WV border that he thinks had a lot of CW activity. That is about 3 hour drive for me for a "he thinks had activity.
