Threshold question F4

newbie question...... Threshold---what does it actually do or effect. I hunt in Disc with only Iron notched out....I have played with the threshold high and low on air test but I do not know what it efffects...I do notice on ground balance it makes it hum when I Cant quite get it correct with the sensitivity. In Laymans term...what does it effect...Sorry for the stupid question.

The threshold lets you know when you hit a real deepie that the machine can just barley see. If threshold breaks there is something down there deep.

Also in all metal non motion searching, if a steady consistent low threshold hum is achieved when you swing the coil it means you are correctly ground balanced. It can be quite tricky to achieve as the ground conditions are seldom uniform, Hence the invention of silent search Motion detectors The discrim motion mode does all the adjustments for you automaticly. But the latter mode is good for getting that little bit extra depth out of you detector but like i said only if ground conditions are similar otherwise it can be a bit fiddly i find...
