Threshold question

I use to have a Whites 6000 years ago so I'm use to the old analog detector so I need some guidance with the new digital machines. I just bought a F5 and was wondering should I be able to hear a hum all the time if I turn up the threshold up? With it in discriminate mode I get no hum when turn it up, are the new detectors made this way? Or can you lead to some info on the F5.... The concentric coil is also very different use to the round so pinpointing is all new now a learning curve....

Thanks......

If its like the F4.. and I'm pretty sure it is.. then yes you will get the humm in all metal when you turn it up.. some people like to hear it I prefer to back off a touch so its quiet.
If your talking about pinpointing with the DD coil there is a trick to it... gain your best signal from one point.. turn ninety degrees and repeat, you will be bang on.
