:thumbdown:Etrac Lower Shaft Came Apart

Greetings All,

As you can see by the picture, the plastic piece at the end of the carbon fiber shaft broke its bond and slid right off.
This happened while the detector was sitting in the back of my car.

Any advice on reattaching it? I have some rod building (fishing rod) epoxy that I could mix up. Super glue?

I have the same problem. Mine also broke while in the back of the car, though I think my dog may have had something to do with it. Right now, the shaft is just wrapped with electrical tape, and I'd like to hear what others suggest.

I'd use the epoxy for a more secure fix. Tape off the end of the rod just above the point where the plastic end slips on and lightly sand the carbon fiber so the epoxy will have a good surface to adhere to. Also lightly sand inside the plastic end. before applying the epoxy clean both surfaces with acetone or alcohol to remove any dirt/dust. My approach to your problem.

Not a expert on on repairing metal detectors. I repaired may golf clubs with graphite shafts that came apart with epoxy. I use an epoxy called "two ton sold "at many home centers or go to golf smith and get some epoxy for club making. Sand both surfaces and clean them. Apply epoxy and let it sit over night to cure. I guess the heat in the car made the epoxy fail. When I want to remove a golf shaft I just heat the hosel and breaks the bond.

I would use fishing rod cement. It is used to glue eyes back onto rods. Works great on carbon rods. HH, Mike

Epoxy it.

Thanks for advice.

I'll use epoxy and will prep the pieces as some of you have described.

If it is still in warranty call the Minelab Customer Service number and also your dealer, if not then try one of the fixes.

this is my comment but i could be having brain lock-up....it happens to me quite frequently. :wiggle:

one other thing, the opposite end of the lower shaft is NOT round! you have to make sure you epoxy it right or your entire assembly will be twisted....then you will really be in a pickle if that happens because if you sand it down and epoxy it that epoxy will never come loose.
