:thumbup:First Hunt with E-Trac

New member
Hello to all,

I posted my first message on here about one week ago when I got my new E-Trac and gave it a good grade on first appearance (find more on that please read the post I submitted). As I stated in the last post, I have been an Explorer XS and II hunter for the past four years so I still feel I have valuable time in on the Minelab detectors. On too the hunt:

Sunday November 16, 2008

I went to my Civil War camp site that is still producing great finds. I programmed the E-Trac to a Civil War discrimination pattern that I set up the night before...very interesting as it is very close to the pre programed coin pattern minus some Iron white outs  Off I went into the woods first. The E-Trac felt very nice to swing after a couple of years swinging the Explorer II  My first find which was about five minutes in the woods was a token that I thought was going to be a big penny, but no such luck  It was a YMCA token "Good for one towel!" (on the back) On the front said, "Newport News, VA." Interesting since the area is a good ways from Newport News and in the middle of the woods of a Civil War camp and 1700 to 1800's home sites. Continue in the woods for awhile with my friends and a couple of minies later (White's MXT) and (Explorer XS) my two friends detectors, I was feeling left out and nervous about this E-Trac

Explorer XS just pulls a 1775 1 cent penny out and the White's MXT a big silver script ring which the E-Trac tried to mask, but I fixed that with alittler accept pattern. Note>>>>>Do not air test in the field, the E-Trac had a hard time picking this up while out of the hole. Once back in the ground, I got the tone and the numbers :yikes:

With added vigor, I was determined to place the E-Trac on top of both these fine detectors and the relic hunters using them. :ranting: Found some minies along the creek which has always produced, likeing this detector more and more.

Along the creek, I got a good hit and pulled out an entrenching tool, good for us Civil War relic hunters and some small cuff sized flat buttons...that's more like it! Left the woods and went into the fields where things got better for the E-Trac :clapping:

Once in the field, I switched it over to Relic Mode and let her go. I found multiple flat buttons (brass and pewter) and some more minies which sounded very nice! :detecting:

Overall, the E-Trac is a winner in my book. The sounds were different and the target locations were also different than the Explorer II, which may throw some Explorer users off from using this detector  It did take half the day for me to figure out the music of the E-Tarc but after that it did not seem to bother me much. It did help to have a friend there with his XS to give assurance, but I could have made it without him. The best part was the balance and weight of the E-Trac. A full day with the Explorer II and my arm is done, but I did much better with the E-Trac (thank you Minelab!) Target separation was very good in the trashy areas and the speed was a plus. I felt I could cover more ground with the E-Tarc than the Explorer II also. So far so good

I will still keep my Explorer II for now.....but the E-Trac may take over soon :starwars:

Enjoy the pics!
