Thunk Noise ?????

What causes the thunk noise on a deep good target? usually on a target that hits good only one way but is deep. Thanks

I think it happens on those targets that are at the limits of being detected, and the thunk comes from it trying to return to threshold while still over the target.....

Thanks for the reply Jim. I'm sure you are right as the depth meter is usually real close to maxed out when this happens.

I noticed that when you run the gain higher you get more of a thunk at the end of the signal, when you decrease gain, it goes away.... anyone else notice this? Maybe the nature of the electronics. HH, Mike.

...notice that, I have'nt heard it since turning my Gain down also. Seems so long ago, kinda forgot about it.
