Tiger Shark or Sand Shark, hmmm. . .

I can't comment on the Tiger Shark but I have used the Sand Shark for over a year on beaches in Washington State all the way down to Florida and have no complaints, the PI units will go deep!!

hey you guys that use the sandshark are you going into the salt water or just over wet sand? and curious do you rinse off the whole unit in fresh water when at home? does corrosion from the salt still attack anything after some time (any unit really not just Tesoro)

I use it in the water and over wet sand as well. The first thing to do when you are finished is to release the locks and wash them with (preferably) fresh water. Once they dry out it is really hard to open due to salt and very fine sand that gets inside. I learned this lesson the hard way  When I get home, I take my baby to the shower and wash it well together with my wetsuit). As for corrosion, I have the same stem for the second season and IMHO if you wash it well in fresh water and then let it dry, it will last long.

In the water as well as over the wet sand.

I rinse it off at the first hose I find coming off the beach. Sometimes that is just coming off the beach, sometimes that is when I get home after a long drive. I've had a couple times where I had to help the detector shafts and the spring release locks with a small amount of penetrating oil. Then after a good cleaning up of the tubing and spring clips all is good again until the next salt bath and long ride.

I rinse with fresh water as soon as possible then air dry, once dry I wipe everything down. I use silicon grease on the rubber O ring after each use. I also use silicon spray on the springs and connectors. I also take the battery pack out if it's going to sit over a week.

I have an excaliber, Still having hard time with it. I do find many coins & rings. I am small & old. I get tired swinging it. Does any one think I would be happier with a shark? I dont salt water hunt. How long do the batteries last? any help from anyone that has made the switch from minelab to tesoro?

Ken,
I had a Sand Shark before I got an Excalibur. My Excalibur is on a straight shaft and is pretty well balanced, but it is still a little easier to swing the Sand Shark than the Excalibur. If you are hunting fresh water, you may want to try a Tiger Shark. The box on the Tiger Shark mounts the same way the Sand Shark does, so I think it will make a very well balanced set up. The 8 inch coil will sweep with a little less resistance than than the larger coil so you may want to consider a Tiger Shark with the 8 inch coil. A set of alkaline batteries last more than 20 hours. They are fairly easy to change.
Cheers,
