tiny coils

has anyone used the joey coil or the 5x7 eliptical excellerater?
curious to what you thought if you have tried them. thanks

I have a few smaller coils and they all work good.

I really like the Sunray x8. It has great separation and you can run it pretty hold. It's a join to swing all day too. It really proved itself in an older park where I'd been hunting with the ML 1050, Pro, and SEF on prior hunts - those are all good coils too. Anyway, the first time through a small section of the park that I'd hunted heavily I turned up getting an 1899 Barber half, 1925 SLQ, and 2-3 Mercury dimes, along with some assorted Wheat pennies. Needless to say each trip back with x8 turned up more treasure that I'd walked over in previous hunts.

I also use the 5" Excellerator. It takes some getting used to because it's so small and some times I get frustrated using it because of that fact. Otherwise I've also had very good luck with it too.

I have a Joey, it was the first replacement coil I bought. I used to use the heck out it, but haven't strapped it on for a long time for some odd reason. As stated in a prior post, it's not waterproof. I fixed that by sealing it (very cleanly so it's not noticeable) with silicone where the cable enters the coil. I never had any problem with falsing. It's super light and easy to swing for hours as well.

I'd like to try the x5, the 4x7, and the 6x8 SEF one day, maybe.

Take care, good hunting.

Doug M.
