Today I found my first LARGE CENT!!!!!

New member
Today I hunted 2 sites, 1 was an old Boy Scout camp that ran from the 20's to the 60's then I detected a new site that was rumored to have an old tavern (bar) that was torn down around the turn of the century. I never though in a million years that I would find a LC, but I did!!!!

First I hunted the B.S. camp and found most of my goodies.

At the tavern site I found the Large cent, Indian Head cent, and the old army cuff button. Any idea on the age of the cuff button? All were down 4 to 6 inches deep.

Today's finds:
Large Cent (I am cleaning it up but the front is pretty toasted)
1891 Indian Head penny
1 Wheatie 1956d
2 Buffalo nickels 1936 & 1 dateless)
Jefferson nickels from the 40's
1 War Nickel (my only silver for the day)
3 religious charms
2 marbles
1 Army cuff button (Possible Civil War era???)

Sorry the pix aren't that great but I had to hurry and take them before I had to go to work. I did film this hunt and I will be finished with it and post it on Monday, I am also soaking the coins to try and get a date of the LC. It looks better that the pix shows and I think its a Matron LC but as of yet I cannot tell the date. I am on cloud nine people!!!!!!

Thanks for looking and Happy Hunting!

There often is the manufacturer's name on the back of the button; see if you can detect any writing. There are a couple of button lists on the internet that can help you date it based on the back mark, often to within a pretty specific period.

Congrats on the LC, let us know if you can get a date off of it.

Way to go Fiend!! I am so happy for you.

I was just talking to Cousin Mike (michelob) a few hours ago discussing how I want so bad to find my first one.

Thanks for sharing.

Great Work finding the stuff.......

Not many of those to be found around here. The only ones I own I had to buy...one year I decided to buy a bunch of the coins I dont have so I could test them on my detector to see if I was missing them or not...he he...looks to me like your doing just fine and in a great spot for who knows what might be next.
Good luck!
