Today will I still have a job or be unemployed?

Pete in MI

Saw the knee doctor yesterday. Discussed options for treatment of the 2 tears in the cartilage (meniscus). Though a minor surgery can be done to trim the meniscus there is a possibility of kicking out a blood clot from the DVTs I have had in that leg.
For now I got a shot to help reduce the swelling and pain in that knee. (Cortizone). Seems to be working ok. Moving around with less pain.

So I have a problem. The boss already told me if I didn't come back to work shortly (that was about 6 weeks ago) they would have to hire another maintenance person. I took that as I will be replaced. When we first talked he just told me to go home and stay there until the doctor gave me a return to work slip with no restrictions. He has callled many times on the phone since asking when I am coming in or asking for info to get a job done and he needed my knowledge. Of course I helped him over the phone as much as I could.

He asked me to come in yesterday to see Jacob. He is someone further up in the chain of command so to speak that deals with finances. I was there, Jacob wasn't. The boss was busy with other matters so didn't stick around as I couldn't get to talk with him.

This is how things turned out with the doctor.....I have a return to work slip but it says sitting work only.

There really is not 'sitting work only' in maintenance. There is a lot of climbing steps (no elevators), lot of lifting heavy things such as refrigerators going from one floor to another...remember...no elevators, lots of kneeling to do ground level work on electrical and plumbing, lots of pushing and pulling of air conditioners/heaters out of the walls in rooms to fix them, and much much more that I cannot do sitting on my rump.

I may be able to be trained on the front desk which would result (guessing) in less pay and shorter hours as they keep the hours for the front desk people lower than the 40 hours a week I was getting. Still that might not work as the front desk has to also climb stairs, vaccuum the lobby carpets, keep the entryway clear of debris and now...snow. I don't think they are going to be able to find work for me and I will be laid off...which I don't think they can do under Workmens Comp but I could be wrong.

I am waiting to hear back from Workmens Comp insurance lady to see what options are available. Thank God, I do have Workcomp bringing in a little money to help keep up on bills as best as we can. Sherry is out of work til spring so it is going to be tight. I don't even know how long Workcomp will be around...heard the funding for that is drying up.

I need to find a new job...one where I sit on my tush...anyone know of a job like that? Can't even get another job until the doctor gives me the return to work without restrictions otherwise Workcomp would stop - I think??? Besides who wants to hire someone already unable to work?
There is Vocational Rehabilitation but the picture of wonderful the program is has been painted over by a long drawn out government involved process that even if I were trained in something else...where I could just sit...would not guarantee me a job when the training would be completed.

So I am confused...concerned if I will still have any job at all at the hotel, etc. Definitely need God to work something out because all this is beyond me. Even tried to convince the doc to take off all restrictions...just so I could keep the job. I will probably get the knee surgery done...oh yeah I am unable to work other than sitting for another 6 weeks which will not go well with management I am sure.

Asking for prayers...I don't even know what to ask for but I sure hate to lose a job as they are hard to find up here in this economy. Thanks for the listening ear everyone. I just don't know where else to turn besides God and by Brothers and Sisters in Christ to pray, Thank you and God bless you all.

Pete

I will keep you in my prayers. We need God's wisdom, knowledge and help. Keep faithful and in prayer and I know God will help you. God Bless, Bryan

God already has a perfect plan in all this. Prayers on the way!

Prayers have been lifted up for you Pete. The Lord allows trials for those he loves to test their faith, I have confidence in you as does the Lord, He will provide.

so I don't have a job but I will be taking the former boss to our church not this Sunday but next Sunday. He is a Christian and is looking for a church up here but being a dark skinned middle eastern person he chuckles as he said "I want to go to church with someone so others won't think I am a terrorist'{

He carries a picture of Jesus in his shirt pocket. I knew this shortly after he took over and didn't know how to separate work and church with the boss. Now there is no problem. We talked a little while ago when I first was sent home to recuperate and I told him anytime I could answer a question he had over the phone to call....after all I said "We have the same Father and it is only right for me help you as best I can."

I spent the better part of the day talking with him about the Work Comp and job loss, helped him with many questions he had on his mind and provided him with the last 3 bulletins from our church and he was overjoyed. He saw there is a Bible study tonight and we discussed it as it is local and he could get there easily as it is in one of the member's home. I told me of his church activities and how he missed church, doing the sound and video system, video taping church events and being in the nursery when his child was young. I then felt sorry as he said he was divorced.

So you see God has a plan and maybe it wasn't to make me feel better about having or not having a job to come back to but maybe to reach out to my former boss to bring him back to the fold.

Thanks for the prayers. I know the former boss still wants me to be back and to work. Even though I spent a day almost for free out of doing what was right and good...he rewarded me and said here is something to get you something to eat...he slipped a $10 bill into my pocket. I don't think a non-believer would have been as generous. God bless Rao (the former boss' name).

that is great news!!!! pete, how are you with computors???? maybe a job where you use a computor all day? there are more legit work from home jobs than people realize.

that's the key and its easier to say they are all not legit in this world to think there is some that are decent. I would need convincing. With all the spam email I get sure are a lot of people using it to make money somehow. I don't want to be another one and not know it...don't want to be one and know it either.

Pete

We are praying for you. God will get you through this. If He wants you to have another job, he will provide. God will heal you and lead you through this trial.

Bro Pete.....Keep the faith for God is working this all out for your good and looks like for your former boss to be in church and worshipping and doing good service for our Lord Jesus Christ! I truly don't know what else to say, except be still and wait upon the Lord's answer in what you should do concerning work and finances!

Me, I would just keep crying out to God and keep telling Him what is needed and that you absolutely need guidance and direction in what to do in this situation and wait for His answer, but if He doesn't move right away and give you His plans for you, then just keep on crying out to Him in Jesus' name! Also give Him praise and glory for what He is doing for you before you even receive His answer....Praise Him for the work that you can do and for the pay you need even before you have them! God never leaves us; sooooo get really serious in praying for your needs to be met!

Also, if you are unable to do anything but a desk job....maybe it is time for you to apply for disablity but will have to have dr sign papers for you more than once, because they turn down everyone...the first time! My brother-in-law, even with my sister's prayers, was turned down the first time...but by persisting with his dr's okay, he received it way before he was 62. He had to wait 2-4 years for Medicare after he started getting SS disability!

There are ways but you gotta be willing and be listening to God and in His guidance along with patience, you will prevail to get a job just like is needed for someone with your health problems or money coming in as SS before you are old enough, but unable to work like you once did!

My prayers are with you and remember, We can do all things in Christ Jesus! Amen! God Bless! Sister Betty

pete, also felt like i should say that your number one priority should be getting your knee 100% better!!! go on food stamps, goverment assistance, whatever it takes!! then when its better you will be able to work physical labor again. if you tear it up to bad now then thats all she wrote and your knee will never get better. praying for ya.........chuck.

Thanks Chuck for the advice..my wife says the same thing...but I like it better coming from you hahahaha. Right now have a flu bug...sicker than a dog..same stuff Casey had, Sherry has and now I have. 24 hours of nasty stuff and headache on top of all the rest,

"Asking for prayers...I don't even know what to ask for " -- Gods will be done -- sometimes it sounds trite, but it is always the right answer.

Sorry I did not read this post sooner but I'm saying a prayer. I agree get that knee better.

Depending on your age, I would doubt that disability is the answer. Probably surgery and a brace (?). I am not a doctor I just play one at home. (giggle)

Hold out for a good surgen and Stryker tools, (we make some of their surgical tools).

Have you given any thought to a position as management or a consultant that your history would apply to?

Good luck Brother
Jeff
