Saw the knee doctor yesterday. Discussed options for treatment of the 2 tears in the cartilage (meniscus). Though a minor surgery can be done to trim the meniscus there is a possibility of kicking out a blood clot from the DVTs I have had in that leg.
For now I got a shot to help reduce the swelling and pain in that knee. (Cortizone). Seems to be working ok. Moving around with less pain.
So I have a problem. The boss already told me if I didn't come back to work shortly (that was about 6 weeks ago) they would have to hire another maintenance person. I took that as I will be replaced. When we first talked he just told me to go home and stay there until the doctor gave me a return to work slip with no restrictions. He has callled many times on the phone since asking when I am coming in or asking for info to get a job done and he needed my knowledge. Of course I helped him over the phone as much as I could.
He asked me to come in yesterday to see Jacob. He is someone further up in the chain of command so to speak that deals with finances. I was there, Jacob wasn't. The boss was busy with other matters so didn't stick around as I couldn't get to talk with him.
This is how things turned out with the doctor.....I have a return to work slip but it says sitting work only.
There really is not 'sitting work only' in maintenance. There is a lot of climbing steps (no elevators), lot of lifting heavy things such as refrigerators going from one floor to another...remember...no elevators, lots of kneeling to do ground level work on electrical and plumbing, lots of pushing and pulling of air conditioners/heaters out of the walls in rooms to fix them, and much much more that I cannot do sitting on my rump.
I may be able to be trained on the front desk which would result (guessing) in less pay and shorter hours as they keep the hours for the front desk people lower than the 40 hours a week I was getting. Still that might not work as the front desk has to also climb stairs, vaccuum the lobby carpets, keep the entryway clear of debris and now...snow. I don't think they are going to be able to find work for me and I will be laid off...which I don't think they can do under Workmens Comp but I could be wrong.
I am waiting to hear back from Workmens Comp insurance lady to see what options are available. Thank God, I do have Workcomp bringing in a little money to help keep up on bills as best as we can. Sherry is out of work til spring so it is going to be tight. I don't even know how long Workcomp will be around...heard the funding for that is drying up.
I need to find a new job...one where I sit on my tush...anyone know of a job like that? Can't even get another job until the doctor gives me the return to work without restrictions otherwise Workcomp would stop - I think??? Besides who wants to hire someone already unable to work?
There is Vocational Rehabilitation but the picture of wonderful the program is has been painted over by a long drawn out government involved process that even if I were trained in something else...where I could just sit...would not guarantee me a job when the training would be completed.
So I am confused...concerned if I will still have any job at all at the hotel, etc. Definitely need God to work something out because all this is beyond me. Even tried to convince the doc to take off all restrictions...just so I could keep the job. I will probably get the knee surgery done...oh yeah I am unable to work other than sitting for another 6 weeks which will not go well with management I am sure.
Asking for prayers...I don't even know what to ask for but I sure hate to lose a job as they are hard to find up here in this economy. Thanks for the listening ear everyone. I just don't know where else to turn besides God and by Brothers and Sisters in Christ to pray, Thank you and God bless you all.
