I havent hunted in more than a month. Been remodeling my new place in Fla getting ready to move down and do more water hunting. We got back Wed. and finally got caught up so i thought id get in a couple of hours and unwind. Hit a park first and picked up some clad but the park was crowded and i wasnt enjoying digging pennies so i headed out. Hit and old place i keep coming back to after finding some IHs, mercs and a flying eagle. Found the IH pretty quick then started working thru the ammo casings, Bud cans, lead, and general trash you find on a site dating back to the mid 1800s. Then i hit the shield nickel.... bam. So i started working the area closer and slower. I got a deep signal that looked like can screed on the smartscreen... but sounded different. Because of all the trash i was hunting in Ferr and what ive found is unlike cond whose tones sound the same even on those targets close to the coil ... Ferr doesnt. You might get a poor tone... but once centered the tones get more accurate. Once centered it bounced to the right side... that was what i was wanting. Turned out to be an 1876 S seated dime. None of the coins were pretty i dug but it was a good day.

I don't know Dew, I think even the seated smoothies are pretty and yours looks to be better than that. Congrats on getting out  and the great finds as well.

Nice seated dime !!

Do aluminum cans or scrap have a lower tone in Ferrous? I have a spot that likely holds more good coins if a guy could avoid the 70 years of lawnmower shattered can slaw.

DD.... not many of them being found in parks any longer. Ive hunted the site pretty good using various settings. This day i took off the SEF and went with the slimline coil. Thou a smaller coil it has good depth.... a bit more noisy with the wet soil, hot rocks, and sensitivity of 26. You get a LOT more falsing when this coil hits a corn stalk than with the SEF. The old place had an old barn that they burned down and where they had dumped ciders everywhere. Detectors hate cinders. Im sure there is more there but my move will likely keep me from further hunts. Love to see the fields full corn and beans... but sure cuts back on some of my hunting.

TD changing hunting methods isnt going to be cheap.... ive started doing the math lol. Ive got the wet and dry sand covered with the SE, it does a darn good job. But getting wet is going to cost me. Thanks everyone. People tended to really rub those silver coins in their pocket back in the day... they got a lot of circulation and many were and are smooth. So to have a date even with the normal surface wear is pretty good. As you can see thou that location is HARD on coins.
