Todays Hunt

One of my hunting buddies got permission to hunt a site near Fredericksburg, Va. Ended up with my first 1 piece button, an Eagle "A". Anyone know what the item might be in the 4th row, right side??? Kinda looks like a furniture tack to me.

The item in the forth row could be some type of a leather decoration. It could be off of a saddle. Does the back have an iron shank shaped like a square nail that's bent? I have found something similar that has a bent shank, probably where it was punched through leather and bent to hold in place. The Item I found was like stamped brass and lead filled. But the woods are just to thick right now Still have 2 more properties that look promising in the area, that we have permission for
Keep in touch...

The "stud" is all brass construction. There was quite a few of them found. Someone also mentioned the possibility that they were stuck in the soles of boots as traction devices.

Hi Mike;
It looks like a decorative brass tack used on CW drums. Congrats on the 1 pc button. GH, David @ Dixie

Mike, My sister has many horses and many saddles. She has one very old saddle that has leather rivets just like the ones found at civil war sites. It also has large brass tacks holding the leather to a wooden inner frame. Isn't it funny how long people have relic hunted but still there are unknown finds that keep popping up.
