Token or Medal

Scortch

New member
A friend of mine just purchased a rental house built in the 40's. The first question I ask is of course, "Can I detect the yard?" So I took off from work early and went to swinging. I found a lot of clad a few Wheaties one 41 Merc and one medal or token. I think medal is the right work as a token is redeemable for goods. Anyway, when I pulled it out of the hole I thought for sure it was a 50 center, it's about the same size. Hart attack over I quickly discovered it was made of aluminum, odd as it rang fairly high on multi tone. After doing a bit of research I think it is a Shell Oil "Mr. President" game piece, however it doesn't have shell oil on the reverse. Its my understanding that all of the aluminum pieces had the shell logo on the reverse and the bronze pieces had a presidential blurb, like this one, on the back. Not a 50 but a cool piece of Americana in any case. The best find for me was a Sterling cub scout ring. I used to have one of these rings when I was a tot, about 5th grade or so.
Thanks for letting me share,
