I found this today and I'm not sure what it is? Its larger than a quarter as you can see the quarter below it. I think its aluminum, it feels to light to be silver, but I'm not sure of that either.
I'm hoping someone might know what it is?

It might be a tool tag. Tags were also used to keep track of employees time. You hung your tag on a peg, when you got to work and took it off when you left.
 
I agree it's some type of tool check.
the numbers are not aligned and hand stamped to match a user or tool.
 
Or a shirt pin. Those look like atachment points on the back for a pin and catch.
 
could be an underground miners id tag, they used similar tags underground. that way they know if everyones accounted for
