toltec 2 batteries

hello again everyone,

I am confused after reading posts here and the toltec manual. My toltec has 2 9v batteries for the detector itself and one for the light....is this factory? or do you think its been altered/updated? The unit with 8 aa's would be a 12volt unit right? not 18v(per 2 9vs)????????????? any help appreciated.

It is supposed to have the two battery packs which contain 8 AA batteries.

Some people use 9 volts thinking they are better, other think it is lighter with 2x9v batteries as well.

You can get the battery packs from radio shack last I looked OR from tesoro directly.

Tesoro did put out a statement some time ago that using 2 9v batteries is not recommended.

The AA battery holders that came on the Toltec II are kind of delicate & the wire connections could be pulled loose easily if treated roughly when changing batteries. This could have been the case with yours and the reason why it was changed over to two 9 volt batteries. But yes they were intended to be used with 8 AA batteries. You might want to change it back over to the original set up. I hope the two 9 volt set up hasn't damaged the unit though.
Good Luck!
