Toltec II guys want to know.

Sven

Well-known member
Some of us have the older Toltec II machines and are wondering how they compare amongst ourselves.
Do we have an ailing or hot Toltec? I'm not sure about mine, my threshold drifts downward a bit in all metal normal mode. Other than that seems to work just fine.

Anyone else want to post their results doing a simple air test?
Most of us know air tests are no indication of actual ground depths.

Here's my results. Ruler taped to lower rod.
Ground balanced, slight threshold, disc set at 2, sensitivity set at max., normal tune.
ALL METAL MODE
Indian head penny......12"
Buffalo nickel.............12"
Silver 1/2 Dime..........10"
Silver dime................10.5"
Silver quarter.............12"
Silver 1/2 dollar..........13"
Small ladies 10k gold ring....10"
Large man's 14kt gold wedding band...15"

DISCRIMINATION MODE
Indian head penny......9"
Buffalo nickel.............9 1/2"
Silver 1/2 Dime..........7 1/2"
Silver dime................7 1/2"
Silver quarter.............8 1/2"
Silver 1/2 dollar..........9"
Small ladies 10k gold ring....11"
Large man's 14kt gold wedding band...8"

My meter readings are only good to about 6", after that it will not move with any of the above targets

 I had a Toltec II for a while and those finding on air tests are almost dito to mine that I did. My threshold also lowered itself in all metal mode just like yours. It was a fantastic unit that was not real heavy at all but I like the lighter weight uMax units better.

I had Tesoro go over mine recently, to be quite honest I never air test any of the detectors I have owned.

:biggrin:All targets were down one of what they should have been. Thing was fairly deep though.
Sent it in, never got it back from Tesoro. That was a long time ago, and I forgot about it..
........... It must still be sitting in Arizona !! ............ About 10 years now.....

I'm surprised they never shipped it back to you I was going to call and check on mine. And next thing I knew I got a knock at door and it was back from Tesoro. I try not to get to antsy with them to give em time to do their thing, especially when they don't charge you:thumbup:

Wow Thats weird would have thought you would not be able to forget about something like that unless you were in the middle of Mad Passionate oh never mind you Know! Anyway Did an Airtest on mine as well and pretty darn close as Svens and did notice the meter was slighly off on nichols but dead on on top end Threshold does not fade out at all that I can tell did an airtest a few mins ago on a silver dollar in All metal and hit right at 14 inches hard with brown coil so I switched over to a Shadow super 7 coil and hit right at 10 to 11 inches solid every time and a 03 barber dime hit at about 9 inches very solid with Super 7

I was involved in a lot of hours at work..Had other detectors, just didn't follow up.. Not Tesoro's fault..in fact If I remember right didn't even send my return address inside box.........
once I thought about it..time had passed, and I meant to call, but didn't.So I just wrote it off as my stupidity... hadn't thought about it for years till reading this post on Findmall...

Done deal !! shouldn't have even said anything about it here...

Elton the detector could have gotten intercepted on your front door steps. My outlaw sat on mine for 6hrs.Tesoro had your name and address if you sent the warranty card in.Only lately have i been given the option to demand a signature.UPS,And Fed Ex loves to leave stuff at the door.Tesoro still might can track the detector with the serial #.Man i would like to try a old detector like that.It sounds neat.
