I was able to get out this morning at daylight before the sun started baking the Earth again..... I hunted a really cool combination baseball/soccer park that has really sandy soil and is easy to dig in. They also have a nice playground for the kiddos & a very nice 18 hole Frisbee golf course that meanders around the surrounding hillsides of the ball park. My finds were all of clad coinage but was able to pull $5.83 from the sandy soil with the Toltec II. This was a two hour hunt, & I can say that the Meter on the Toltec works like a champ...... the depth readings are all pretty much spot on. I did have a couple of instances where the needle would peg out to the far right without a beep signal but cleared when I re tuned it with the switch, not really a problem there because I think it may have been underground wiring which caused the needle to peg out. could have been electrical interference too I think ......& the times it happened were close to light poles there for the park. Once I re tuned and moved away from the pole, it never happened again until I got close to another one. All in all, I think if someone wanted to try out a TID machine but was low on cash, like most of us are nowadays. A Good used Toltec II would fill the bill for a much cheaper price than a brand new one. Very good dependable detectors for sure...

Toltec II hunt today....

I'm glad you are likeing the Toltec ll.......it has been one of my favorite detectors for many years.
Retail price on the Toltec ll in 1994 was $599, so they were a fairly high end detector in their day.
The Toltecs I have seen for sale lately have been running from $210 to $275......so you got a good deal.
The intermitant meter needle pegging issue is common on mine, I just swing the coil over another target in the ground and that resets it.
After you get some needed moisture in the ground and its cools off some, take the Toltec to a relic or historical old site with rusty nails in abundence You will be pleasantly
surprised on what that detector will do.........it is very good in the iron. ED 120 discrimination rocks

I agree Randy, I'm glad to hear that was common for the meter. I had the 5.75 coil on it in the beginning this morning while hunting the trashy areas then switched to the 8"x9" and checked the Ground balance and it didn't change with the coil swap (Was slightly positive) I used the 8"x9" out in the open fields where trash was less of a problem. The soccer fields have allot of sand so the digging was good due to frequent watering. I was able to pull several quarters at about 5" - 7" with the 8"x9" and the moist soil conditions.

I use the stock 8" brown coil always with mine........It never comes off. It is too much of a hassle with all the coil wires.
Besides..........with a little coil sweep trick I use with the 8" coil.....I don't need a smaller coil for my Toltec.
When you get into a trash rich envIRONment, just raise the search coil a couple of inches higher above the ground. By using the coil swept higher above the ground, you are effectively using the
smaller magnetic field of the coil and not loosing hardly any depth. I have found this to be great technique to use in the naily places I so often hunt in. JMHO

I finaly found the Toltec ll's older brother last year and bought it. It's a nice detector also......but has a smaller meter. It's also a big and top heavy metal boxed analog model, it makes the Toltec ll look like a 'light weight'. Instead of ED 120 disc., the T100 has a more pronounced bias against iron than the ll, more like a 90 degree disc. circuit. It also has a notch circuit, where you can eliminate pulltabs.......but I never use that feature anyway (too many good targets) read as pulltab. I use the 7" concentric coil on the T100, and it is a good combo on this detector with its bias against iron.

Your unit is dead on relative the meter as had several different toltec 100's over the years...Heres something many don't know if use anything but the stock coil your readings may or not be
correct...In this situation Tesoro has to tune the coil to the unit and you can't switch back and forth..By the way the TroyX-2 small coil will work on all non ID Tesoro's but may goof up the meter on Tesoro metered units...and is a dandy coil

I'm not Jay, but this may help.
My Toltec ll just came back from Tesoro, it was off a little and they recalibrated it. In an air test......quarters are 95, clad dime 88, and pre 1982 penny at 88. Nickles come in at 30.
In the ground and the deeper they are, the meter will downscale some.
