Hi Explorer,
There are a couple of beaches in Melbourne where you definitely wouldn't put your hand in the sand due to the needles left behind by druggies. I was at a particular beach the other week, detecting, and a couple of guys who were watching me detect, kindly warned me against that. (I was already aware of this), but thought it was nice of them just the same. Anyway, just use my goldpan sieve and shovel to do all the sifting. I guess in some places we can never be too careful!
Cheers Angela:geek:

Gid'day finn55cats,
Got a pic here for ya on a couple of ants. The second pic, the inchman (or bull ant as it's also known) was what attacked me while I was out bottling. It is literally an inch long, solid and very aggressive! You really wouldn't want to disturb their nest, as they chase you and try to jump onto you! I'm not sure if their sting or bite, but whatever they do it really hurts!!!
HH Cheers Angela

Hey there BG777
You should live in Australia. All our medical bills and services are covered by Medicare. Just go to emergency and you're covered for just about anything. Good Luck. Cheers!

God, what a story Angela. Thanks so much for sharing that. I know it's personal, but "how true it can be" as they might say. Your's is a very similar story to mine, only your's was much worse, probably because the size of the ants. Wow, wow and "holy mackeral". I hope I never come across any bull ants. Glad you got out of it ok, and you probably felt ill because of all the veneum when they bit you. Just a guess, there. But I think I'd feel ill too if that happened to me. Great to hear from you on that and keep those posts a comin' on in. You're finding some facsinating stuff.:|:geek::yo::|

That's ok they were one of the big San Francisco, acid, hippie, bands starting around 1966 in San Francisco. I still dig em, but Jerry Garcia died a few years back so the band pretty much broke up. You take care. Marc.

Man, what a world we're living in these days with all these viruses and stuff. Bad mold, etc. I guess all we can do is take all the precautions we can and keep on going. Take care and thanks for sharing that. I think all this info is important stuff, especially what we're talking about here, needles, tetuns, etc. It's good to be informed so we can at least make informed decisions on how to deal with it.

Thanks finn. Here's an up date on me. I went to a clinic and got a tetnus shot and some antibiotics. No sign of rabies and things are healing up fine. Thanks for the concern and stay away from too many stray dogs, especiall if they're in a fight with another dog. The one I got wrapped up with wasn't a stray, but be careful anyway.:|:geek::|

That's one scary looking ant. The other insect that I'd be "really leary of" is the funnel web spider. They're a pretty viscious and poisness spider that lives in Australia. Don't know where in Australia for sure, but I watched a program on them one time, and I think it was Sidney. This is one "bad boy" of a spider and I guess in some cases it could be fatal or at least very dibilatating. Not trying to scare anyone here too much, but again, I'd just say to all of us, let's all be as careful as we can and try and be ware while we're out there. By the way, I do think they cary anti-venom in most or some of the hospitals for that spider, so that could save you. You guys have a Merry Christmas and lets all have a happy and prosporous New Year.:|:O:|:geek:

Wow, I can't even afford medical insurance yet. That's great that you have that in Australia. Any more, these days, especiall since I'm over fifty now, (darn it :|) but that is a very important issue to deal with. You guys take care and let's hope we can all stay out of the emergency room if possible, but it's great to know that you're covered over there.:yo::geek::|:O:geek:
